Unit Description Cardiology, The Heart Hospital The Heart Floor at The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway is a 24 Universal bed concept devoted to the care of Cardiovascular Thoracic Medical and Surgical patients. Every room is hard wired for monitoring critical patients if needed.

The patient stays in the same room from admission through discharge eliminating the need for transfers. There are three levels of Care on the floor identified as Telemetry, Step-Down and Critical Care. The Heart Floor cares for patient conditions including Myocardial Infarctions, Chest Pain, PTCA#s, Open Heart Surgery, AAA, Carotids, Thoracic, CRRT, etc.#This is the only floor with this format in the Tri-State area.

Summary of the Job:# Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nursepreceptor the Graduate Technician (GT) participates in the following program: The#Graduate Technician (GT)#Training Program requires the direct supervision of a RN preceptor working with the GT. The intent of this RN preceptor/GT diad is to create a learning environment for the GT to experience highly complex patient care within a nursing care delivery system at the unit level benefiting role development of the GT transitioning from the GT to the Registered Nurse role while awaiting RN licensure.

The goal of this training program is to facilitate the transition of all GTs to Registered Nurse responsibilities within Deaconess Hospital, Inc. at the time the GT presents a verifiable, full, and unrestricted license to practice as an RN in the state of Indiana. Graduate Technicians must complete NCLEX exam within 60 days of assuming this position. JOB REQUIREMENTS # QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must clearly demonstrate each of the competencies.. The education/experience, certifications, skills, physical demands, and work environment further define requirements associated with this position.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and Experience Graduate from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing and applied for and/or awaiting results of first NCLEX exam. Individuals who do not pass the NCLEX on the first attempt may remain in orientation in their current position with the understanding that they must retake the NCLEX within 60 days.

If second attempt is unsuccessful, employee would be removed from Graduate Technician position. Employee will not be in Graduate Technician position for a period greater than four months. ASN hires will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years from date of hire into this job.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Degree from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing and applied for and/or awaiting results of first NCLEX exam. Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider. Boards must be taken for the Indiana Boards of Nursing and cannot be transferred from another state.
