Job Description
In general, these positions will be for .5 FTE (20 hours/week), and positions may be in either lab or lecture courses, depending on needs. Duties are likely to include, but are not limited to, instruction of lab or lecture courses, grading responsibilities, assisting students with questions, and meetings with supervising professors.
Required Qualifications
Current KU graduate student in good academic standing, with home department approval, during semester of potential employment.
Minimum of six hours of enrollment.
Meets KBOR-mandated English proficiency requirements, if applicable. KU Procedures for GTA Spoken English Competency
Completion of undergraduate coursework in biological concepts such as biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, plant and animal development, morphology, physiology, ecology, and phylogeny.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of graduate coursework in biological concepts such as those listed above.
Previous experience in education such as prior work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, or other related experience.
