Job Description

The College of Graduate Studies at the Texas A&M University-San Antonio is committed to supporting the success and well-being of graduate students. We provide comprehensive resources, programming, and services to empower graduate students to thrive academically, professionally, and personally. We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered individual to join our team as a Graduate Student Success Coach. In this role, you will work closely with graduate students to provide holistic support, guidance, and resources to enhance their academic and personal success throughout their graduate journey. A full-time Graduate Student Success Coach will be hired with PPOHA grant funds to help guide graduate students through their programs from application through graduation.

Responsibilities:

  • Stay in compliance with all PPOHA grant requirements.

  • Collaborate with the College of Graduate Studies and Proyecto Èxito staff, other departments and faculty to meet student needs, and to continuously meet goals and objectives in a timely manner.

  • Initiate contact with incoming, potential, and current graduate students to provide information and support regarding academic programs, resources, and services available.

  • Offer advising and referrals to students experiencing academic or personal challenges, collaborating with faculty to identify and support students who may require additional assistance.

  • Serve as a central point of contact for graduate students seeking assistance or information regarding academic requirements, campus resources, and student success support services.

  • Conduct regular check-ins with students to monitor their progress, address any concerns or barriers they may encounter, and provide ongoing support throughout their educational journey, ensuring graduate student success

  • Stay informed about changes in academic policies, procedures, and resources to effectively advise students and ensure compliance with program requirements.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in student advising, support services, and higher education practices.

  • Administer scholarships for graduate students, including managing the Proyecto Èxito scholarship program and facilitating scholarship selection committee meetings.

  • Supervise graduate tutors, overseeing their work and coordinating meetings with the Associate Director to establish and work towards goals.

  • Maintain visibility and accessibility to all graduate students, acting as the primary point of contact for assistance and support.

  • Generate, interpret, and analyze reports on student data to inform decision -making and program improvement initiatives to have maximum impact on students to improve the enrollment, retention, and graduation of underrepresented students.

  • Conducting Degree Audits. Perform audits of student transcripts and degree plans to ensure they meet program requirements and university regulations for graduation.

  • Maintain detailed records of all student success services provided to students in a data tracker, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting for purposes of compliance with the Department of Education.

  • Work with graduate faculty to identify students struggling in class, reach out, provide advising, and service referrals.

  • Provide assistance to graduate students in various areas, such as SAP appeals, graduation certification, reinstatement conferences.

  • Use email, phone campaigns, and other communication means to make announcements to students of upcoming deadlines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.

  • Four years of experience in higher education, student affairs, academic advising, or coaching, particularly with graduate students.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.

  • Previous experience working with underrepresented students.

  • Knowledge of student development theory, coaching principles, and best practices in supporting graduate student success.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, faculty, and campus partners to promote student success initiatives.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with student information systems or advising software preferred.

  • Strong preference to candidates who are bilingual: English and Spanish.
