Graduate Residence Life Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Graduate Residence Life Assistant position serves as mentor, advisor, and resource agents for the Resident Assistants and residents within the University of Saint Mary residential community.

Responsible for encouraging a positive living environment for residents by coordinating services, providing on-call coverage and supporting essential functions of the Student Life.

The Graduate Residence Life Assistant lives on campus and may be on-call when supervisor is absent. Insofar as they are part of the professional staff in Residence Life. The Graduate Residence Life Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life.

The Graduate Residence Life Assistant, working with Residence Life is responsible for helping shape and maintain positive residential communities, and serves as a role model for the residential communities and overall student life. The position is a part of a comprehensive Keleher Learning Commons & Student Development team and responsible for providing support to the office, planning and implementing hall events, providing support to campus activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Serves as a role model to students and student staff.

• Assists with key housing processes (e.g. opening, closing, staff selection).

• Participates in the 24-hour on-call schedule for resident student emergencies.

• Assists with Residence Life programming.

• Maintains regular office hours within a designated residential community.

• Provides assistance and support to residents within a designated community.

• Assists with resident mail distribution.

• Assists in the planning and executing of New Student Orientation.

• Collaborates with various university personnel and offices.

• Participates, as appropriate, in college-wide committees.

• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• This position resides on the main campus.

• Bachelor's Degree and enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Saint Mary.

• Prior experience in residence life or student affairs.

• Prior experience organizing/planning co-curricular activities and crisis intervention are preferred.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

• Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Must be self-starter, able to work with minimal direction/supervision and should possess and demonstrate initiative.

• Must be highly motivated, energetic, and ready to assume the responsibility for a comprehensive program; must be imaginative and creative; able to promote and encourage enthusiasm for division activities.

• Intermediate level experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Must be able to successfully pass required background screening as appropriate.

• Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary.
