JOB SUMMARY:

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. Promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • PATIENT CARE - Deliver safe, direct care to an assigned group of patients, under the supervision of an RN Preceptor
  • POLICIES - Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
  • NURSING CARE PLAN - Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • MEDICATION - Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
  • TESTS AND PROCEDURES - Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • EMERGENCY MEASURES - Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards.
  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • PATIENT SAFETY - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols. Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes. Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk. Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner. Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer.

  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.

AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.

RISK MANAGEMENT/QUALITY MANAGEMENT/SAFETY: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Ø Education

  • Program Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Ø Work Experience

  • No minimum experience required

Ø Training

  • N/A

Ø License

  • NM Board of Nursing Graduate Permit or RN License

Ø Certification

  • BLS required. ACLS, PALS required or within 90 days of employment. TNCC, ENPC, NRP, preferred.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
