About the Graduate Development Program

National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US.

Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through quarterly development session and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.

About the Position

The Associate Analyst, Gas Construction Safety & Compliance will be responsible for a wide range of key aspects important to department leadership, compliance and improvement through planning, facilitation, communications, project management and other task specific

activities that impact and contribute to the success of all parts of Project Management and Complex Construction (PM& CC). The successful candidate work closely and collaboratively with VP of function, department directors, and stakeholders across the business as appropriate to execute tasks and projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with business continuity plan process and promote the philosophy of safe team working and development across all activities in order to achieve business objectives, maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance, and continuously improve performance.

  • Collaborate on annual process to define, track and report on business objectives in support of achieving department goals.

  • Identify, define, and execute process improvement activities in order to achieve high productivity, low costs and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures and engaging stakeholders internal and external to PM&CC.

  • Contribute as a liaison for PM&CC to the compliance reporting, risk management, and other official processes as requested.

  • Act as key liaison for Process Safety Management within PM&CC

  • Support and lead communications activities including all employee road shows, department newsletter, extended staff meetings, and developing speaking notes / emails.

  • Contribute to the Emergency Planning (EP) Process and act as the Safety Champion for PM&CC.

  • Provide support to PM&CC VP as requested including executive / department level reports, input to the Certificate of Assurance process, leadership in compliance management, Safety Leadership Day process, and other activities as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master's degree from an accredited institution preferably in Business, Project Management, or Economics

  • Ability to manage / integrate the project related work and ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to deliver high performance

  • Displays commitment to safe and productive work environment through consistent actions, beliefs and personal conduct

  • Graduated between May 2019 and May 2020

  • Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 1, 2020 or June 22, 2020

  • Valid driver's license with safe driving history

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States

About the Position Project Estimating plays a critical role in shaping National Grid's short- and long-term capital budgets for the core lines of businesses within the US. By working closely with numerous other departments including Engineering, Project Management, and Construction, our highly collaborative team develops detailed, defensible estimates using nationally recognized estimating techniques. Our unique position within the business allows us to participate as core project team members in challenging and interesting capital projects. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our own performance through team-developed department initiatives as well as analysis of actual spend to our estimates upon project completion The Estimator will prepare accurate and timely construction estimates for large scale complex construction projects. Estimates include all aspects of a project including materials, engineering, permitting, environmental compliance, construction, labor and equipment. Key Accountabilities * Training sessions and mentoring to learn the National Grid business structure, the utility business and estimating practices. * Prepare accurate and timely construction estimates based on engineering designs, drawings, site visits, contractual agreements, materials, permitting, environmental, construction labor, and equipment. Incorporate solid understanding of the utility construction process into complex estimates. * Analyze key themes and trends to ensure all factors are properly considered, priced and included in the project estimate. * Determine understanding of risk associated with large capital projects and the application of contingency. This would include application and development of risk registers, Quantitative Risk Assessments, and/or Monte Carlo Simulations. * Revise and update the estimating system software to support storage and retrieval of estimating information and enhance efficiency and operability of the system. * Participation in estimate versus actual evaluations upon project completions for costs and schedule. Document findings and develop improvement plans based on the analysis. * Consult and collaborate with vendors, personnel in other departments or engineers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. * Continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area. * Work independently to manage schedule and workload in order to meet need dates.
