Job Description

Signature Research Events & Programming 40%

  • Designs and/or supervises the creation of promotional materials, press releases, and other publications related to signature research programs including 3MT, CGRS, and an annual Graduate Research Symposium.

  • Independently coordinates the planning and implementation of OGS's largest programming events and competitions, including Three Minute Thesis(3MT), the Capitol Graduate Research Summit, and an annual Graduate Research Symposium.

  • Serves as the main point of contact for the Capitol Graduate Research Summit and coordinates with other universities on planning and execution of the event.

  • Maintains website content for all signature programs including application guidelines, event dates and deadlines, and updates profiles of finalists, participants, and winners of competitions.

  • Serves as the main point of contact to the Office of the Provost's Events Coordinator for the annual Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. Assists with the event coordination and at the ceremony.

Graduate Career Advising 25%

  • Fosters graduate student career and professional development through direct service delivery, including career coaching, interactive programming, and referrals to additional campus resources as needed.

  • Provides individual career coaching, including supporting graduate students through career exploration processes and relating current experiences and skills to potential career paths within and beyond academia.

  • Utilizes evidence-based assessment tools, including Individual Development Plans (IDPS), strengths assessments, etc. in career coaching and programming in methods supported by current research and best practices.

Graduate Career and Professional Development Programming and Support 25%

  • Collaborates with the Director of Professional Development and Communications to develop and execute a strategic communications plan to promote career support platform resources, webinars, online events, and professional opportunities for students enrolled in graduate programs at KU.

  • Monitors participation in graduate career programs and events and conducts process and outcomes evaluations to ensure program offerings remain responsive to student interests and needs as well as national employment trends.

  • Partners and collaborates with other campus and academic units to provide and enhance career exploration and preparation workshops to support graduate student career development across campus.

  • Collaborates with departments to utilize career destination surveys and other related data sources to develop co-curricular offerings that meet students' professional development needs.

  • Works with the OGS Associate Vice Provost and Director of Professional Development and Communications on the development and deployment of graduate alumni surveys on career pathways and outcomes.

  • Contributes to, ensure interoperability with, and coordinate portions of national graduate careers outcomes projects.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Professional Development and Communications, develops reports and presentations on graduate career outcomes for University of Kansas faculty, staff, and administration

Other Duties and Special Projects 10%

  • Supports documentation and assessment activities.

  • Participates in relevant professional development.

  • Other tasks and projects as determined by the Director of Professional Development & Communications as relevant to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

  • Excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials.

  • Two years related experience in graduate program development, career counseling, teaching, and/or training.

  • Experience with or training in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and data visualizations, as evidenced by application materials.

  • Previous experience with event planning or project management, as demonstrated by work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or ABD

  • Knowledge of graduate student career and professional development issues and trends across the disciplines represented at KU, as demonstrated by application materials.

  • Strong organization and time management skills, as evidenced by work experience.

  • Previous experience collaborating with faculty on curricular or co-curricular development, as demonstrated by work experience.

  • Previous experience with interdisciplinary collaboration, as demonstrated by education or work experience.

  • Skills to interpret data, find patterns or trends that support continuous improvement initiatives and stakeholders needs. Strong communication skills to present analytical findings to various audiences.

Position Requirements

This position will primarily work on the KU Lawrence campus with some remote work flexibility.
