Description:

The University of Pikeville is currently seeking a Graduate Assistant to work with First-Year Experience and Family Connections. The GA will work closely to advise students and their families of the processes in place on campus and provide them with invaluable resources the student may lean on during their collegiate experience. The Office of First-Year Experience supports the transition of approximately 425 new students during a series of GROWL sessions throughout the summer and UPIKE FIRST Week that runs from August 21-25, 2024, as well as during key points throughout their first year. This role will work collaboratively with the Director of Family and New Student Connections and the Coordinator of Student Experiences, as well as university staff, faculty, and undergraduate student leaders to plan, develop, and implement orientation and transition programs for first-year students, transfer students, and their families. The GA for First-Year Experience will gain knowledge of university communication to incoming families and students, contribute to student leadership development and training, and understand programmatic logistics.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the overall planning and implementation of program initiatives including logistics, scheduling, session preparations, serving as a campus resource, etc. for events including, but not limited to GROWL, UPIKE FIRST Week, and family engagement events.

  • Participate in planning and completing training sessions for student leaders.

  • Develop and manage relationships with offices on campus.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of UPIKE FIRST Week assessment plan.

  • Assist with departments' social media as needed.

  • Review and edit UPIKE First-Year Experience Campus Group Page.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

  • Successful completion of bachelor's degree

  • Experience working in an office setting with administrative tasks

  • Strong Organization and project management skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of data collection methods, developing surveys, and analyzing survey

Graduate Assistants receive tuition waivers of up to 6 hours of classes per semester, housing & a meal plan. However, if the GA does not reside on campus, then he/she will receive a monthly stipend in lieu of room & board. The meal plan covers the actual number of weeks that classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
