About the Department:
Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) serves 500 student-athletes in 22 NCAA Division I sports. We are a proud member of the Atlantic 10 Conference with 17 Conference Championships, NCAA Championships in Women's Soccer and Men's Indoor Track, an NCAA Final Four appearance with Men's Basketball, and over 30 individual National Champions. About the Position:
George Mason Athletics is seeking a Graduate Assistant, Ticket Operations in the Athletic Ticket Office. The Graduate Assistant, Ticket Operations will work under the direction of the Director, Sales & Ticket Operations to ensure ticketing operations for each sport are accomplished. This Graduate Assistantship is designed to expose the individual in the role with performing work that is related to their program of study, commensurate with level of study, and that provides substantive professional experience in their field of study and career preparation. The selected candidate should be enrolling in either Business Administration, MBA or Sport & Recreation, MS. This is a 12-month position with yearly options to renew to finish a graduate degree. At the conclusion of the GPA, the student will have an in depth understanding of ticketing at the NCAA level and an understanding into the business side of sports, with a learning outcome of knowing if they want to pursue a career fulltime in athletic ticketing.
Responsibilities:
The Graduate Assistant, Ticket Operations will have an immediate impact in the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Ticket Office. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for oversight of main office email (icatix@gmu.edu) and phone (703-993-3270), providing exceptional customer service to the fans, donors, season ticket holders, and other constituents of George Mason University who may attend Athletic events;
Proactive problem solving for ticket customers on various issues;
Manage the development and execution of email marketing campaigns to increase attendance at George Mason Athletic Events with an emphasis on ticket promotions and increasing ticket revenue;
Assist in the building of seasons and events within the Athletic Ticket System, Ticketmaster Archtics to ensure we are meeting proper sales timelines including: renewals, new season tickets, and individual game tickets for all ticketed sports;
Liaison with other university departments, such as the General Accounting Office as it comes to daily deposits of ticket sales and executing potential cash deposits;
Running ticket operations for assigned sports/games. This includes all ticket setup and break down, oversight of part-time student wage workers, reconciliation of events, and all other ticket operations aspects;
Assist with daily maintenance of ticket software system and office equipment. Assist with maintenance of customer accounts within Ticketmaster Archtics ticketing software including assisting full-time sales staff with operations questions within the system;
Knowledge of and adherence to George Mason University, Atlantic 10 Conference, and NCAA compliance policies and procedures;
The Graduate Assistant will be exposed to other areas of a Division I Athletic Department (Event Management, Marketing, Development) and gain an understanding of each; and
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
Graduate Professional Assistant will need to be admitted into an MBA or Sport & Recreation, MS graduate program at George Mason University prior to accepting the position;
Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in collegiate athletics, preferably in ticketing, event management, and/or marketing and promotions;
Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills;
Positive attitude;
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
Must be able to work nights and weekends; and
Available to work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period beginning in August.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous athletics experience as a student worker or intern in ticketing and/or event management preferred; and
Working knowledge of Ticketmaster Archtics or other ticketing system.
