Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the Cancer Epidemiology & Health Outcomes division of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).

The primary purpose of the Graduate Assistant is to perform research-related tasks conducted by the Precision Prevention of Prostate Cancer (Pre2 CAP) laboratory. Tasks will include curation of administrative, spatial, and epidemiologic databases involved in research, coordinating research activities through liaising with regulatory bodies at CINJ and other research and administrative institutions, supporting preparation of research dissemination materials, and participating in data collection activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI).

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Prepares literature reviews for research papers and grants as directed by the PI.

  • Supports data collection, data cleaning and management for investigators conducting cancer-related research, according to PIs' instructions.

  • Assists in the development of databases and data dictionaries for research projects.

  • Under the supervision of the PI, performs data cleaning, processing, and analyses.

  • Attends and contributes to study team meetings to provide updates on data-related tasks and flag issues with ongoing data collection or analysis.

  • As directed, contributes to data collection through administering consent, conducting interviews and supporting primary data collection activities.

  • As directed, communicates with primary data collection staff to resolve discrepancies in recorded data.

  • As directed, contributes to public facing communications of research activities and findings through the laboratory website.

  • As directed, supports coordination activities with research ethics bodies at Rutgers and other collaborating research, government, and other institutions.

Position Status Part Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is required.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and communication skills required.

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in an academic environment and/or cancer epidemiology research laboratory is preferred.

  • Effective written communication skills demonstrated through completion of an undergraduate thesis is preferred.

  • Experience using R or other data analysis software is preferred.
