Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting he faculty member in descriptive, exploratory, or experimental research to prepare resources, equipment, and materials for research; publication activities, data collection, data management, and/or data analysis. The student works under the supervision of the faculty member.

Responsibilities:

• Handle confidential and sensitive data with integrity.

• Prepare data and information for projects using the appropriate software.

• Assist in grant writing, conducting research including recruitment, data collection and compilation.

• Schedules, organizes and reports on status of research activities.

• Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation.

• Meets with faculty supervisor on regular basis to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant's performance.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Agriculture, or equivalent.

• Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Prairie View A&M University. (Minimum of 9 credit hours during the regular fall and spring semesters and 6 semester credit hours for the summer semester).

• Must be in good academic standing.

• Preference will be given to the student who has solid background and/or strong interest in science, mathematics, engineering, and computer, fieldwork or in similar subjects.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks promptly, and make significant progress without direct supervision.

• Strong organization and interpersonal skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Some research skills or knowledge.

• Ability to learn new software and research techniques as needed.

• Flexibility in adjusting to new work-related requirements as they arise.

• Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office, internet, and electronic media.
