About the Pulliam Center for International Education: The Pulliam Center for International Education (PCIE) offers students various opportunities to develop a broadened perspective and a heightened appreciation of a culture other than their own through the John Belk International Program (JBIP). The PCIE also supports the more than 200 international students from over 50 countries that study at Queens.

The Pulliam Center Graduate Assistant position requires approximately 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters including some evenings and weekends. Summer and university break schedule will vary and is negotiable. International Student Orientation (ISO) requires work prior to the start of classes each semester and the week of ISO will exceed 20 hours of work. The Graduate Assistant will report to the Director of the Pulliam Center for International Education.

The successful candidate must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte. There is no expressed or implied commitment to a paid position upon completion of the internship. This role is eligible for tuition remission for up to three courses per semester (that you are actively working as a Graduate Assistant).

Areas of Learning and Application:

  • Learn and practice developing and implementing an outreach and engagement plan to support the international student population, including subgroups such as students coming from United World Colleges, multilingual students, or students living abroad for the first time

  • Learn and practice communicating with current and prospective students, including managing the Pulliam Center's social media

  • Learn and practice preparing and facilitating programs and events such as International Student Orientation (ISO), JBIP Reveal Party, International Education Week, monthly International Teas; may take the lead on some programs

  • Learn and practice creating advertising and social media content utilizing Canva to support PCIE social media and marketing

  • Learn and practice updating/developing resources and publications such as the International Student Handbook, the JBIP Handbook, MyQueens pages, and physical/in-office resources; apply a student point of view for effectiveness and creativity

  • Learn and practice administrative tasks such as: responding to emails and voicemails, data entry and analysis

  • Learn and practice how to respond to basic requests regarding international student resources and JBIP options

  • Learn and practice hosting study abroad information tables and information sessions on study abroad programs

  • Learn and practice delivering presentations regarding international education opportunities at Queens
