Resident Directors are graduate students serving as live-in staff members and educators who work to create a safe, welcoming, and educational environment for residential students that fosters a sense of belonging, community engagement, and personal development. They participate in the overall planning and management of the residence halls, serve as frontline crisis/emergency responders, assist with the student conduct process, and create and implement a variety of training and development programs.
Department: Student Affairs - Residence Life
Reports To: Director of Residential Living
Status: Graduate Assistant (part-time, 10-month)
Contract Dates: July 22, 2024 - May 16, 2025 (42 weeks, 21 weeks per semester)
Hours per Week: 25
Work Schedule: 25 hours per week, with emphasis on connecting with residents. Schedule 10 office hours per week within Student Affairs.
Compensation: $10,000 stipend and full time LBC I Capital graduate tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year (does not include books and fees)
Residence Life Benefits: On campus housing in a furnished apartment (utilities included) and partial meals
Education and Experience: Bachelor degree required. Must be enrolled, or intending to enroll, as a full-time graduate student in a Lancaster Bible College I Capital Seminary & Graduate School program. Acceptance and enrollment into an LBC graduate program must be completed by the position starting date. Experience as an undergraduate Resident Assistant or similar leadership position required.
Additional Qualifications: Resident Directors must have a demonstrated personal and active Biblical faith commitment. Resident Directors should demonstrate proficient leadership, collaboration, communication, adaptability, organization, problem-solving, and administrative skills. Resident Directors must be able to respond calmly and quickly to difficult or uncomfortable, interactions and situations.
Requires work on evenings, weekends, and regular on-call responsibility. The Graduate Assistant Resident Director is required to live in an assigned residence hall apartment. Graduate students committed to 20+ hours per week for internships are not able to hold the Resident Director role.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Resident Assistants
Essential Responsibilities:

Actively cultivate a safe and welcoming Christ-centered living-learning environment in the residence halls and campus community that promotes spiritual growth, student development, belonging, and wellbeing.

\t\t

Serve in the emergency and crisis response on-call rotation to provide 24-hour emergency/crisis response to students on campus (requires overnight and weekend availability).

\t

\t\t

Provide direct leadership, supervision, training, and discipleship to assigned team of Resident Assistants.

\t

\t\t

Provide oversight and logistical management of assigned residence hall(s); take ownership of building culture and care; oversee move in for assigned building(s).

\t

\t\t

Invest in student discipleship, learning, and community culture; actively engage with students and be a visible presence on campus by attending chapel, campus events, and eating in the dining hall.

Practice accountability and discipline strategies as needed with students in assigned area.

\t\t

Participate in College events as requested, providing support as needed, including Welcome and Orientation Weekend, Homecoming, Late Night Breakfast, the Gala and others as available.

Support the overall mission of Student Affairs, participating in Student Affairs team meetings and activities.

Other Expectations

Resident Directors wishing to seek additional employment must receive approval from the Director of Residential Living.

Resident Directors should schedule personal appointments and events around their work and graduate school schedules; time off must be approved by the Director of Residential Living

Physical Demands: Able to respond quickly (within 15 minutes) to emergency situations 24/7. Climb up to four (4) flights of stairs within a residence hall. Ability to lift items and carry up to 50lbs between various campus buildings as needed. Maintain a valid driver's license.
Employee Expectations: The College expects all employees to conduct themselves in a manner that is in alignment with Biblical teaching and doctrine, and is respectful of the conduct expectations of the College and fellow employees. All Resident Directors must sign the statement of faith as provided by the Human Resources office.
