JOB SUMMARY:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) is primarily responsible for supporting faculty with laboratory equipment and providing practice time for current students. This includes daily OT laboratory space and equipment cleaning, routine laundry completion, and inventory management. The GA must also support the faculty with classroom and office-level needs. In addition, the GA provides support to the AFWC in communicating assignments to students and onsite supervisors for Level I and Level II fieldwork.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Create and implement the 'open lab' concept where OT students can practice lab techniques outside class. Practice activities include but are not limited to; functional mobility training, application of modalities, and use of adaptive equipment. Guidance as to content is to be provided by the course instructors.

2.Assist with set-up and tear of classroom or lab activities for OT courses. Gather materials or provide access to instructional supplies for adjunct instructors.

3.Supervise student learning of performance-based tasks during lab sessions for OT courses. Provide teaching support in areas of expertise based on professional experiences (i.e., ergonomics assessments).

4.Assist the AFWC in communicating assignments to students and on-site supervisors for Level I and II fieldwork.

5.Assist in department-sponsored events such as Fieldwork Educator's Day., speakers, and guest lecturers. Provide support to the faculty for Admissions events.

6.Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.

7.Other duties include:

  • Check and respond to emails promptly.

  • Send Professional Development Unit letters (PDU) to fieldwork educators.

  • Complete NJ Verification letters to send to the OT Department Chair.

  • File charts and/or create charts as needed.

  • Clean and resupply the Tech lab for Adapting and Grading class as directed by the course instructor, including refilling hydrocollator, paraffin unit, splint pan, etc.

  • Wash and put away linens in Tech and Adult lab

  • Review the OT webpage monthly on Alvernia.edu for needed updates.

  • Assist with Advisory Board meetings (take notes and minutes)

  • Assist with marketing events for OT, including Zoom sessions or contact prospective students.

  • Organize and clean storage closets (every other day).

  • Create classroom and lab schedules to post in the OT suite.

  • Assist in hanging research posters in the hallway.

  • Check inventory in storage closets. Notify the OT Department Chair regarding any safety issues with equipment.
