The Graduate Writing Center seeks a Graduate Assistant to work as a coordinator of graduate writing groups. The position involves recruiting and communicating with potential graduate writing group (GWG) members; organizing, scheduling, and facilitating periodic meetings for GWG members; and gathering and curating resources to supplement those meetings.
The position involves working with graduate students, in organized groups, about ongoing writing projects in all current graduate programs at the University of Mississippi, which includes various and diverse disciplines in the humanities and applied and hard sciences. The graduate assistant will provide group writing support to students both face-to-face and online, as well as participating with writing workshops when necessary.
Minimum qualifications for the position include:
MUST QUALIFY FOR US WORK STUDY
Current (or immediate upcoming) enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Mississippi
Strong writing skills, as evidenced by a writing sample
Experience in research writing
Flexibility in availability, including possible evenings and weekends
Preferred experience:
The ideal candidate will have taken advanced writing or grammar classes, will have experience working academically with multilingual learning students in any capacity, and will have above-average editing skills concerning grammar/punctuation conventions and mechanics.
Work Schedule: 20 hrs/wk
Assistantship Award: $5750/semester
Time period: 1 year, with the possibility of renewal
