Provide assistance for the coordination of programming sponsored by the Office of Social Equity, Title IX, and Multicultural Student Affairs and engage in campus-wide efforts to promote civility and ensure equity in all University programs and activities. This position will serve as a member of the Student Affairs Division and report directly to the Director of Social Equity, Title IX, & Multicultural Student Affairs. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, event management, and administrative skills. This is a 9-month, 25-hour per week position and requires evening availability.
Position Responsibilities
Assist the Director in campus coordination of Social Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX compliance and administration, including but not limited to prevention and education efforts
Assist in coordinating diversity, equity, and Title IX committees and institutional policy, procedure, and response protocols
Research and continuously identify civil rights administration and violence prevention education best practices for institutions of higher education
Coordinate the organization and selection process for the Multicultural Leadership Team (MLT)
Assist in training and development for MLT, including organizing the
Assist the Director in the assessment of campus culture and climate in order to provide campus-wide educational action plans to address systemic issues, implicit bias and gaps in understanding of social justice/anti-violence concepts
Assist in development and implementation of training, educational, and awareness programs for campus and community members designed to promote a culture of respect
Assist in programming to engage campus and community members in activism and activities designed to promote social justice through peer education and awareness campaigns
Provide support to develop and expand strategies to encourage bystander and ally empowerment through the Shepherd Stand Up Don't Stand By Bystander intervention program initiative
Create flyers and disseminate information through social media and other means of communication
Provide assistance with response, investigation, and resolution process for complaints of discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct reports
Assist with administrative and office duties
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
Attend professional development opportunities as they arise
Serve as the graduate student representative on the University's Diversity & Equity Committee
Attend student affairs, and other institutional or committee meetings as assigned
Collaborate with campus departments and individuals in the development and execution of campus wide social justice, diversity, and equity related educational and training events
Assist with the assessment of all events and trainings. Assessment results will be utilized for department end of the year reports and the Diversity for Equity grant report
Assist with the development of the Diversity for Equity Grant proposal submitted to the WV Higher Education Policy Commission
Facilitate communication, collaboration, and support between student organizations and MSA
Other duties as assigned
Intended Learning Outcomes for the Social Equity, Title IX, and Multicultural Student Affairs Graduate Assistant:
Experience with development and implementation of violence prevention and awareness training and programs.
Experience with student group coordination and advisement
Experience with event management including the necessary components of event planning and marketing.
Understanding and interpretation of federal law and the way that law translates into institutional policy
Understanding of appropriate response, investigation, and resolution to reports of harassment, discrimination, and violence.
Foster collaborative processes with other departments
Benefits:
Earn $13.00 per hour
Graduate waiver up to 16 credit hours per employed academic year
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required;
Admission/enrollment in the College Student Development and Administration Program at Shepherd University for Fall 2024
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in and understanding of programming and diversity issues is valuable.
