General Summary
The position of Graduate Assistant (GA) for Eagle Nutrition Services (ENS) offers Master's students opportunities to develop their own skills and knowledge base as registered Dietitians while providing support to the ENS Clinic Director and mentoring students in our Coordinated Program (CP). Because this GA mentors students during supervised practice experience hours, they must be registered dietitians.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
ENS is a nutrition counseling and body composition testing clinic that offers services to the campus and local community. Through ENS, our department is able to provide dietetic students with experience in community nutrition and entrepreneurship. Examples of GA responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing body composition testing, such as DXA and BIA, as well as nutrition counseling to ENS clients and complete necessary charting using clinic templates
Supervising students and/or events while at ENS
Precepting and providing support or guidance to dietetics students in permitted activities
Planning and providing cooking demonstrations, with involvement of dietetics students, and maintain our Demo Kitchen space
Providing community outreach to EMU students, employees, and area residents. Occasional travel to local communities may be required.
Performing clinic tasks such as: client scheduling, payment processing, data entry and analysis, deposit of funds, and maintenance of ENS social media
Assisting in compiling documents needed for accreditation
Conducting literature searches and creation of client handouts/resources
Assisting with the preparation of professional presentation materials
Collecting and analyzing ENS and program data
Assisting in conducting research
Developing grant and manuscript writing
Other duties as assigned
The GA in ENS reports directly to the ENS Clinic Director. The GA plays a key role in supervising program students and providing services that bring revenue into ENS. Funds brought in through ENS services allow our program to be entrepreneurial and cover program expenses.
Minimum Qualifications:
The applicant must be admitted or in process of being admitted to the EMU Grad School, be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and be ServSafe certified, or become ServSafe certified within 30 days of starting this position.

Additional Information:
PLEASE NOTE: Students of our CP are required to complete 1000+ hours of supervised practice (per accreditation). The ENS GA can gain experience in counseling, teaching, program development, community outreach, grant writing, marketing, budgeting, and leadership. Written and oral communication skills, as are counseling and documentation (charting) skills, are developed. The GA also develops valuable connections with faculty members, community members, and practicing dietitians.
