Job Description

80% Program Management, Operations, and Advising

  • Advise one of the four governing council(s) through an experience-based approach which includes mentoring, officer transitions, weekly meetings, and other interaction. Interfraternity Fraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and Panhellenic Association (PHA).
  • Advise the executive officers of the council(s) to ensure programs, services, and facilities are compliant with any applicable legal, compliance, environmental policies and/or mandates from governing boards.
  • Advise and coach Chapter Presidents within the community.
  • Identify and implement a strategic plan for the council(s) including action items, key performance indicators, retention initiatives which reflect the learning outcomes of the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Will collaborate with SFL staff in the overall management of SFL/council programs, services, and resources provided.
  • Work in collaboration with SFL staff on social media output/maintenance, website content development, and editing.
  • Provide direct crisis response and support to chapters and students in collaboration with Director of SFL, the Student Affairs Office, Lawrence Police Department, and other agencies.
  • Assist in the facilitation of educational programming including, but not limited to: Council Officer Transition Workshops, Special Population Support, Council New Member Orientations, and Council Risk Management Training.
  • Support SFL's partnership with KU Admissions and First Year Experience through presentation/facilitation support .
  • Helps coordinate educational, cultural, and leadership programming activities for individual chapters or officer positions through SFL and its campus partners/departments.

10% Assessment

  • Manage, compile, and distribute council statistical information and database reports, including grade reports, in collaboration with SFL staff.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and assessment of designated departmental programs.
  • Collaborate with SFL staff on the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community Standards tracking and annual reporting process.
  • Contribute to the overall Student Affairs assessment efforts and reporting.
  • Continually monitor best practices in the SFL field and assist in implementation where appropriate.

10% Other Duties

  • Serve on Division and University committees external to Sorority and Fraternity Life when asked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  • Bachelor's degree and acceptance in the Higher Education Master's degree program or related graduate program at the University of Kansas for the 2024- 2025 school year.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  • Prior undergraduate leadership experiences or full-time professional experience working with fraternal organizations or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training and/or experience in public speaking and in developing training workshops/organizational programs.
  • Must prioritize SFL responsibilities over other employment obligations and work flexible hours including occasional weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents both individually and in groups.
  • Knowledge of critical issues/trends facing fraternal organizations and the ability to provide appropriate advising/support.
  • Training and/or experience in program and curriculum development.
  • Ability to organize work efficiently and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Teams.
