TITLE: Graduate Assistant
FSLA STATUS: Graduate Assistantship, part-time/hourly
DEPARTMENT: College of Applied Social Sciences, Continuing Studies Programs
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of BPS and MMCR Program
SALARY: Hourly rate, 10 hours a week
PRIMARY PURPOSE/POSITION SUMMARY:
The graduate assistant for CASS Continuing Studies will have the responsibility of creating and maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment while serving as a vital resource in a network of services that seek to assist adult students. Their primary focus will be to support the coordinator and assistant coordinator with recruitment, faculty development, and communication with external resources, contacts, agencies, and vendors. They will also assist in crafting a seamless experience for adult students to enhance their potential for success and persistence. Under the guidance of the Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of CASS Continuing Studies Programs, the graduate assistant will coordinate, monitor, and support various aspects of the programs such as BPS and MMCR.

JOB COMPONENTS//PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with CASS planning and execution of events (Alpha Sigma Lambda Induction Ceremony and MMCR/MATIL Pinning Ceremony-2 evening events- one fall and one spring) and on-campus courses (MCR 601, MCR 607, MCR 635, MCR 647- staff & faculty assistance) including but not limited to; IT, library and general orientation, faculty sessions with students, faculty meetings and special events. Attendance at Countdown to Commencement. Ordering supplies and producing certificates for the above.
Work with adjunct faculty and Bookstore on the Required Materials List and with the library faculty on putting books on reserve each semester.
Order books from publishers for reserve and faculty.
Research as needed and support the programs with excellent communication with/to students on multiple topics
Make prospect calls, provide general advice to undergraduate and graduate students in all programs and/or draft degree plans to assist with the appropriate course of study
Assist students in identifying and obtaining services at the University to help students in achieving their academic goals
Process general correspondence and maintain electronic filing related to students, faculty, and staff
Prepare flyers or correspondence as needed
Regularly update SharePoint pages with jobs, new student information, and documents for faculty
Answer phones as needed
Update databases, and electronic files and maintain appropriate statistical documents as needed
Provide appropriate services to the University Community as requested to support CASS Continuing Studies programs, (Bachelor of Professional Studies, Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution)
Communicate student information to appropriate University Offices as needed
Assist with maintaining files and issuing certificates
Other duties as delegated or assigned for any CASS support work as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience and competence in various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc. or willingness to learn
Organizational skills
Ability to work graciously with various groups of people
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines with ease
Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the position
Experience and success in a similar position
Other requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Must be currently enrolled as a Graduate Student at Dominican University (part-time or full-time)
