Job Description Summary

The Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs is a position in the Division of Student Affairs working directly with the Associate Director of Career Services & Mail Center under shared supervision.

Job Description

DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Contribute to all functional areas in the Division of Student Affairs, including temporary assignments in other areas under the purview of the division.

  • Assist in the efficient operation of the university Mail Center, including, but not limited to, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail, and supporting any initiatives aimed at enhancing its services.

  • Create and produce marketing material for office events and priorities, including promoting university programs and services as well as any new initiatives aimed at enhancing the Mail Center.

  • Assist in the management of office social media accounts to enhance outreach and engagement with students and stakeholders, promoting both Career Services and the Mail Center.

  • Support employer outreach and sustained engagement efforts to foster relationships with potential employers, while also exploring opportunities for collaboration with the Mail Center.

  • Support individual student meetings and programming for Career Services.

  • Assist in the management of software platforms for both offices, including platforms like Handshake, to streamline operations and enhance student experiences.

  • Engage in classroom/organizational visits and/or trainings for both offices to provide support and resources to students.

  • Assist in executing office programs and priorities.

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and preparing relevant data across both offices, including data for the First Destination Survey and office engagement data, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement within the Mail Center.

  • Participate in University functions, events, committees, etc. as appropriate to represent the institution and support university-wide initiatives.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including phone/email support, on-campus visitors, and addressing student requests/concerns, with a focus on enhancing the mail experience for all users.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Career Services or designee to contribute to the overall success of the department and university.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university

  • Full time enrollment in a Saint Leo University graduate degree program.

  • Ability to learn, digest, and apply knowledge of best practices in career development.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of creative and innovative programs and services

  • Knowledge and appreciation for diverse populations of students with evidence of a commitment to social justice and inclusion

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic Benedictine values and the values of Saint Leo University

  • Awareness of shipping rules and customs documentation.

Skills:

  • Commitment to student development and student success initiatives

  • Possess strong organizational, creativity, and technology skills.

  • Able to coach and motivate student employees.

  • Ability to analyze complex situations and to make sound judgments and decisions

  • Ability to perform with integrity and autonomy in every situation

  • Skilled at engaging diverse others - individually and in groups, directly and through writing, social media, and use of technology

  • Ability to operate mailroom equipment like postage meters, scanners, and printers.

  • High energy student that excels at conceptualizing and implementing, customer service, community building, communicating in various venues and modalities, effectively engaging students and staff

  • Ability to effectively manage interpersonal communication in a team environment

  • Ability to balance many tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and consistently meet or beat deadlines

  • Ability to manage time and stress for self and others

  • Ability to address conflict in a calm, deescalating, solutions focused manner

  • Ability to creatively problem solve issues with students, families, and others and work diligently until there is a fair and compassionate resolution
