The Quantum Engineering and Computing (QEC) group is seeking a Co-op or intern researcher in the area of 2D layered materials and their applications. The projects will aim to study the fundamental physics of the two-dimensional materials, including but not limited to graphene, superconductors, dielectric insulators, topological materials, and semiconductors, and their applications in quantum information science. The position will cover the design, fabrication, measurement, and study of quantum devices. The candidate will join a highly collaborative and close-knit group comprising theorists and experimentalists working on quantum computation and engineering, both in QEC group and partnering with research groups at universities.

What are some of the things you might do?

  • Design and simulation of 2D quantum devices

  • Fabricate devices from 2D layered materials such as graphene

  • Setup equipment and define a process for fabricating devices from 2D materials.

  • Characterize structures such as superconductors, dielectric insulators, topological materials, and semiconductors

  • Measure and study quantum devices

  • Work collaboratively and communicate frequently with theoretical and experimental scientists.

  • Present accomplishments to BBN QEC group members

What will you need?

  • Candidate for Master's degree in physics, engineering, math, or a related field

  • Ability to start as a full-time or part-time intern or Co-op January 2021 and continue as a summer intern.

  • Possess a deep understanding of graduate level physical science and/or engineering.

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm in exploring sciences and technologies

  • Good communication skills

  • Programming experience with Python, Julia, and/or Matlab

Additional Skills that would be AWESOME

  • Familiarity with quantum information processing and/or graduate level quantum mechanics

  • Familiarity working in a laboratory environment and high-frequency measurement techniques

This position requires either (1) US Citizenship, (2) Permanent Residency, or (3) Other suitable documentation to permit hiring if you are not a US citizen or Permanent Resident.
