Job Statement:
The Instructional Coach TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) is a critical component to improving student achievement in the Omak School District's Targeted Schools (Omak Middle School). The role of the coach is to build grade 6-8 teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to the Marzano Instructional Framework, the Washington State Learning Standards and Data-Driven Instruction.

An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team.

Instructional coaches will assist teachers in the reflection on data and will partner with teachers to use their data to guide instruction, and plan and implement academic interventions. They will support high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling and co-planning. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for teaching strategies, data and leadership. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.

Selection Process:
A successful applicant will have a current Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate background. A committee will conduct screening and interviewing of applicants.

Functions:
Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Washington State Learning Standards and varied assessments, the Marzano Instructional Framework, and data analysis.
Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District and Building initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
Provide instructional support to collaborative teams within buildings.
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning.
Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
Informally observe lessons (non-evaluative, and with teacher approval) and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' success.
Model lessons in grades 6-8 classrooms for teachers to observe to support their professional growth and students' success.
Support teachers and administrators in administrating assessments and using data to improve instruction in grades 3-8.
Develop coaching plans with teachers to support teachers and ensure student improvement.
Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
Attend summer training sessions.
Model continual improvement, demonstrate lifelong learning and apply new learning to help all students achieve.
Job Requirements:
Minimum 5 years' experience teaching preferred.
Previous successful coaching experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture relationships and a professional community of adult learners.
Proven experience in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.

Intended Outcomes and Success Measures:
Improve teacher and student performance in targeted areas as identified with the teachers.
Provide support for teachers to evaluate and plan with data.
Increase Professional Learning opportunities and participation of staff trainings across the Omak School District.
Increase test scores across grades 6-8.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 30% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in some hazardous conditions and in a clean atmosphere.
