An elementary teacher provides a developmentally appropriate educational program for students in the appropriate elementary grade.The teacher is responsible for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to improve instruction; and engaging parents/guardians in conversations with regard to instructional programs and student progress.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • A valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Education

  • Demonstrated experience with elementary learning principles

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (not limited to):

  • Creates and maintains an effective and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children

  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal classroom climate

  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities to improve instruction and become up to date on district initiatives

  • Assesses student progress towards learning targets, objectives, and expectations

  • Collects data to document student progress and aid in planning

  • Provides feedback on progress to students, parents, and administration

  • Holds parent conferences in the fall and spring to discuss individual student progress

  • Instructs students in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and an anti-bullying curriculum

  • Prepares daily lessons and activities

  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students

  • Provides targeted intervention to close student learning gaps

  • Differentiates for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual need

  • Collaborates with instructional staff and colleagues to improve student outcomes

  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve social, emotional and learning problems

  • Follows specific standards, policies, and procedures of the building and the district

  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings

  • Other duties as needed

Work Environment & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand; while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree * MA teaching license in moderate or severe special needs (elementary level) * Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues * Ability to use technology effectively Desired Qualifications: * Prior experience working with students with special needs * Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process * Understanding of special education regulations and laws ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (not limited to): * Teach students specific skills and strategies to help them access curriculum * Conduct IEP meetings and complete all related paperwork in a timely fashion * Monitor student progress; revise IEP according to progress * Co-teach in regular education content area, or teach substantially separate subject * Communicate with school personnel outside of the department and parents * Attend departmental and school-wide meetings * Consistent and on-time attendance is required or supervision and instruction of the students Work Environment & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work Environment: Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to assist with student behavioral needs as necessary, including responding to students who are physically unsafe, using physical restraints as part of a de-escalation process, and moving furniture in response to a crisis situation.
