Location: Prefer Washington, DC, but candidates can work remotely from any location with travel expectations.

The Government Relations Director is responsible for effective oversight and engagement with trade association and third-party led coalitions and advocacy campaigns to advance Anthem, Inc.'s public policy priorities. Partner with Grassroots Manager to maintain and develop enterprise-wide advocacy programs that deliver customized advocacy solutions to address public policy threats and opportunities at the federal and state levels. Will collaborate with internal stakeholders, business units and other internal functional areas, as needed and defined by the Vice President of Federal and External Affairs.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide oversight of Anthem's investments in, and managing day-to-day interaction with, trade association and other third-party led coalitions and campaigns to support the Company's public policy priorities.

  • Partner with grassroots manager to support business objectives by creating and managing grassroots assets and capabilities, including managing external consultants.

  • Develop significant content for effective and motivating advocacy communications (e.g., websites, newsletters, emails, etc.) for internal and external audiences, and concise, data-driven internal reporting and tracking.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders (state and federal government relations, corporate communications, public policy and issues management, external affairs, and company business units) to develop and implement advocacy strategies and objectives via coalitions and campaigns.

  • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to develop deep knowledge of Anthem's public policy priorities and the potential implications to the Company.

  • Interpret polling/survey data to develop strategic advocacy activities that support the Company's public policy priorities.

  • Build and maintain a system for tracking the impact of grassroots initiatives and value of trade association and third-party coalitions and campaigns toward achieving business objectives.

  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external stakeholder meetings, in-person or via teleconference.

  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships or build coalitions that align support for the Company's business development objectives.

  • Enhance existing capabilities by meeting with vendors to ensure the Company's leveraging resources effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 8 years of legislative, regulatory, political, public affairs or industry experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing political campaigns; performing issue advocacy; coalition management.

  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to negotiate expectations between multiple parties.

  • Experience developing and managing strategic advocacy activities that achieve desired outcomes.

  • Extensive experience writing and developing effective and motivating content for advocacy activities.

  • Experience interacting confidently with senior internal and external stakeholders, while being adept and comfortable with influencing decision-making.

  • Experience relating to healthcare policy and business.

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office products, most notably Teams, Excel and PowerPoint.

About the Work Unit: Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 16 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 10 women's teams, a total of 351 student athletes), 14 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference. Duties and Responsibilities * To serve as the first point of contact for incoming sales calls and in-person office transactions * Create, implement and execute direct email marketing and sales campaigns using Ticketmaster Messenger and Ticketmaster Content Builder, and help to maintain any ticket office social media accounts. * Work with student ticketing including digital ticketing and database management. * To assist in building customer service, marketing and sales for Vanderbilt ticketing through new initiatives. * Compile trend reports utilizing existing marketing databases to increase sales through basic marketing research tools such as online data collection and direct mail. * Perform integrity maintenance on the ticketing database management software as a precursor to balancing revenue to the general ledger. * Utilization of online web-based ticketing software including on-sale items, online renewable promotions and system-based email network and newsletters. * Assist the daily reconciliation of revenue reports to the athletic business office. * To assist in the coordination of outbound sales initiatives while assisting in grassroots ticket sales implementation. * Assist with closing of sport seasons to the general accounting ledger of the athletic business office and the audit of automated systems by the NCAA annually. * Help prepare and distribute invoices to visiting teams. * Daily printing, mailing, and distribution of all season and individual game tickets * Provide exceptional customer service to everyone that interacts with the ticket office. * Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Ticket Operations. Qualifications * A Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or related field is necessary. * Previous experience in a ticket office is preferred. * Must be available to work during all athletic events, as needed, is necessary.
