What We're Looking For:

The Government Affairs Unit leads Cross River's external relations, public policy, and government advocacy work, at the Federal, State, and Local level.

We are looking for a Government Affairs Specialist/Manager who will serve in a support role for the external affairs and government advocacy functions within the unit. This role will work closely with senior employees of the office, as well as with external associations and government officials under the leadership of the Head of External Affairs and play a critical role in the advancement of Cross River's public policy agenda.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve in an advocacy and external relations support function - liaison to elected officials, regulatory agencies and community groups.

  • Serve as a representative on various trade associations, boards and chambers.

  • Lead the generation of government affairs and policy content/collateral.

  • Help develop and execute event related collateral from conception to completion.

  • Research functions of the bank and industry landscape and be able to apply retained information to develop content/collateral.

  • Research and evaluate the different risk/opportunity factors regarding proposed public policy at the State level.

  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces. (internal, external)

  • Collaborate with the other departments of the bank to understand the needs of each department and how that interacts with proposed public policies; and help generate Cross River's positions on these proposals.

  • Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Advanced degree in Public Administration/Policy or a similar specialization

  • Prior experience working in a State Legislature, legislative/government affairs or at a financial service regulatory agency.

  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills, as well as strong writing and editing capabilities.

  • Experience developing and implementing public policy advocacy strategy.

  • Highly collaborative style: high energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to guide policy and advocacy discussions at both the strategic and implementation levels.

  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.

  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.

  • Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation.

  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.

  • Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information.

  • Preference for someone based in the Washington D.C. commuting area, or Metro New Jersey/New York with an in-office presence.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00
