The City of High Point is currently seeking a Golf Shop Attendant to assist with daily operations and general maintenance of the golf shops and clubhouses at Blair Park Golf Course and Oak Hollow Golf Course. The Golf Shop Attendant assists with golf cart management and performs related work as required. The Golf Shop Attendant will be trained in grillroom operations to assist as needed. Work schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays and is performed under regular supervision of the Golf Professional.
Essential Tasks
- Provides excellent customer service for patrons, over the phone and in person, to answer questions and assist in the operation of the golf shop and clubhouse;
- Collects fees, receipts, and other related revenues as directed;
- Assists in enforcing the facility rules and regulations;
- Assists in all tournament-related activities, including: leagues, golf associations, group outings, tournaments, school activities, group catering and serving, etc.
- Prepares the golf cart fleet for the golfing public on a daily basis;
- Maintains facility in a clean and orderly fashion, including emptying trash, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning counter tops, tables, restrooms, and other janitorial related duties;
- Assists in the range operation by retrieving and filling range baskets;
- Accepts and places orders at the grillroom, serves food and concessions;
- Cleans and prepares tables, assists with preparation of food;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Completion of High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be comfortable in a customer service role.
- Must have experience operating a computer.
Preferred Qualifications
- General knowledge about the game of golf
Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking- Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers, and necessary to perform the duties related to the position.
Visual Abilities - the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see patrons across an open space and give instructions to them regarding facility use. Both eyes 20/25 -
R 20/30 - L 20/30 corrected.
- Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see program materials, telephone, merchandise, documents, and other paper work near at hand.
Both eyes 20/22 corrected
- Depth Perception- Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time.
Depth perception- 4
- Field of Vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span to cover surrounding area in order to observe patrons who are located in the area while attending to the activity at hand.
- Accommodation- Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up or away to check another area to observe patrons. Must be able to adjust the lens of eye to glance quickly to ensure all is safe and program participants are all right.
Physical Strength - degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:
- Medium to Heavy Work
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and
- A negligible amount of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
- Work requires running, jumping, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and reaching. There is a significant use of arms, hands, legs and feet. Must be able to move quickly since safety factors are involved.

Good judgement is important because often the individual may be working in the absence of a supervisor.
Mathematics Ability
- Using arithmetic and/or Statistics:Ability to use arithmetic to collect fees, figure daily revenue collections, calculate percentages, count money, make change and to complete various reports from information.
Language Ability
- The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
- The Golf Shop Attendant is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment for long periods of time without becoming exhausted. The position is best suited for someone who doesn't mind getting wet, dirty, and sweaty.
Hazards
- The Golf Shop Attendant will be exposed to water, trash, garbage, floor cleaners, gas, oil, and cleaning solutions. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens.
Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
- Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: golf carts, cash register, calculator, computer, fire extinguisher, telephone, 2-way radio, mop, broom, water hose, buckets, tires and tire tools, drink dispensers, pens, pencils, Personnel Resolution, and various forms associated with the job.
