Description / Position Overview
This is a grant-funded position with anticipated dates of employment from May 21st through September 3rd with the possibility of an extension. Hours worked will vary between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays. Anticipated hours not to exceed 400.
GOCO (Great Outdoors Colorado) Inspire Pathway - North Cheyenne Canon Park grant was designed to improve connections to the outdoors for youth (normally between the ages of 18 and 24) and families.
North Cheyenne Canon Park seeks a candidate for the GOCO Inspire Pathway grant. In this position, you will work in a mountain setting only minutes from downtown Colorado Springs, near waterfalls, massive rock formations, and peaceful creeks. Learning from veteran visitor staff at the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center and Helen Hunt Falls Visitor center, you will be inspired to work in the great outdoors!
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
Work with other team members to operate and maintain Helen Hunt Falls and/or Starsmore Visitor Center
Interact with visitors from around the world
Provide outdoor educational programming in a park with landscape that rivals national parks in beauty
Provide information and maps for North Cheyenne Canon Park and surrounding attractions
Perform trail patrols and guided hikes at Helen Hunt Falls area
Assist adult and teen volunteers
Open and close the visitor center; clean and perform site maintenance
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
A desire to learn and curiosity about nature, including wildlife, geology, trees, wildflowers, and ecosystems
Knowledge of local history
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely

As defined by the grant, youth - normally between 18 and 24 years of age
Have a high school diploma or GED
Work is performed in a mountain environment with elevations up to 7,225 feet and possible exposure to extreme weather conditions. This position requires the ability to hike up to four miles, stand, climb, stoop, bend, and lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
