Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems Inc., a Terran Orbital company, is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer in our manufacturing facility headquarters in Irvine, CA. As a Guidance, Navigation, and Controls engineer, the candidate the will join a collaborative team to develop innovative nano-satellite vehicle solutions for multiple projects. The individual will be responsible for a wide range of analysis, software, hardware, test, integration, and documentation in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, analysis, implementation, and testing of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms for spacecraft
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity 6-DOF simulations with Matlab/Simulink
  • Vehicle control system architecture sizing and definition
  • Software in the loop and hardware in the loop testing
  • Development concept of operations and participation in mission simulations and mission operations

Requirements

  • M.S, in engineering field with concentration in dynamics and control.
  • Demonstrated GNC and software development using Matlab and Simulink
  • Strong fundamental understanding of orbital dynamics and classical mechanics
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision
  • Passion for the NewSpace industry
  • Per the requirement of certain Tyvak facilities, applicant must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance and all special accesses required to work at such facilities.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in dynamics and controls is highly desired.
  • Experience with design of spacecraft rendezvous and proximity operations, fault detection/isolation/recovery, flexible body control, Kalman Filtering, MEMS and GPS sensors
  • Hands on experience with small satellites, robotic systems, or similar
  • C++ and Python

VIEW JOBS 10/20/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-18T00:00 <p>Tyvak mission operations engineers will be involved in all aspects of the spacecraft lifetime, initial CONOPs definition, design reviews during development, oversite of final spacecraft testing and qualification, launch, commissioning, long term operations and decommissioning. </p><p>In addition to predictive and analytical work, Mission Operations Engineers will serve on-console during spacecraft activities, which may include periods of off-hours or on call work.</p><p>Specific responsibilities include:</p><ul> <li>Develop and test automation and data analytics tools in either C++ or Python. This includes analyzing long term trends through data analysis and improving web-based application interfaces </li> <li>Design and improve on database schemas and interfacing with large data sets based on MongoDB</li> <li>Monitor, assess and maintain the operational health of in-orbit spacecraft. Includes defining, developing and executing pass plans, which may include spacecraft configuration changes</li> <li>Perform complex analysis to monitor the health of systems and subsystems throughout the satellites lifecycle.</li> <li>Identify, investigate, and resolve highly complex spacecraft system and subsystem deviations and anomalies.</li> <li>Lead and participate in the development of satellite operations procedures, products and processes, working directly with hardware development teams within the company.</li> <li>Develop and distribute reports summarizing technical analysis, findings and recommendations to include monthly and annual satellite health and status reports as well as anomaly resolution reports.</li> <li>Play a key role in defining and developing satellite system and subsystem requirements for ground control system and networks.
