This position requires a results-oriented professional who can work in a dynamic growing organization located in New Providence NJ. Reporting line to Head of Technology Cluster North America.

This position has the responsibility for the Regional Technology Laboratory and its staff and for the global steering of the Regional Tech Leads.

Formula for Success

  • Completion of all work with a commitment & focus on following all aspects of the guiding principles of BASF Responsible Care

  • Lead regional Development & Customization (D&C) labs disciplinarily

  • Key contact for respective global stakeholders (e.g., Segments, Sales, Production)

  • Gather, collect, and distribute/share regional technology requirements and needs

  • Support the Head of Technology Cluster in budgeting process for HR, invest and other operating expenses

  • Support R&D controlling in cost allocation for customization

  • Support the Global Technology Management Team in developing the overall global technology strategy with input from own area; align with segment and regional/country strategies

  • Support the Tech Platforms with resources, e.g. InnoConcepts

  • Coordinate D&C activities with Regional Tech Leads

  • Coordinate capacity utilization across regional and local D & C labs

  • Ascertain global harmonization / standardization of processes and products

  • Ensure knowledge retention and exchange

  • Ensure regular communication with Global & other Regional Tech Leads in other regions

  • Ensure regular communication with regional & local Technical Customer Support

  • Support for Process Customizing/Applications

  • Responsible for the technology strategy and R&D project portfolio in his/her area (trends and developments in the industry) together with Segment Manager

  • Prioritize projects/topics with the Segment(s) and ensure execution of projects

  • Adapt properties of globally/regionally available products and keep existing products marketable

  • Allocate and prioritize projects/topics to regional D & C labs

  • Assign regional and local resources to projects

  • Global definition and approval of new raw materials

  • Support project leads in project tracking & reporting according to R&D controlling guidelines & KPIs

  • Member of Product Steering Group for projects / topics

  • Responsible for IP management in are of responsibility

  • Other duties as assigned

Ingredients for Success

  • A PhD in Chemistry or comparable work experience

  • A background with experience in the field of metal working fluids

  • Experience in the fields of metal pretreatment, cold forming or lubricants is a plus

  • Long lasting experience in specific technology > 3 years

  • Effective communication skills

  • Experience developing and coaching other employees

  • Experience leading a team

  • Project management skills and experience

  • Intercultural Skills

  • Travel ability

  • English language skills
