The Role

The Global Supply Manager Battery Cell will drive strategic sourcing, Engineering interfaces, commercial negotiation, cost reduction opportunities, business partnership development and overall supplier management for Tesla's Battery Cell Supply Chain. Responsibilities

  • Support the Tesla Engineering and Program teams for both future program and current production vehicles.

  • Build technical knowledge of battery manufacturing processes, technology landscape, and supply base.

  • Develop suitable supply chain capacities and capabilities to support next generation designs and manufacturing process.

  • Validate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on commercial evaluation of supplier proposals.

  • Fully support aggressive program and project timelines.

  • Lead a cross-functional (Engineering, quality, and supply chain) team in development of Tesla commercial and technical strategies for Battery Cell in both Vehicle and Energy Products.

  • Support organizational cost management objectives by identifying and negotiating commercial cost reduction opportunities.

  • Negotiate cost changes related to product design changes on current production.

  • Cultivate Best-in-Industry supplier relationships as single point of contact for all commercial and strategic issues in the Battery Cell commodity.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Tesla's procurement, production, and related ERP systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Econ, Engineering or Supply Chain Management, Master's degree preferred and/or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability.

  • Experience operating in a high technology supply chain environment / purchasing background, automotive experience at O.E.M. or major Tier I supplier preferred

  • Understanding of contract fundamentals

  • Experience developing "should-cost" estimates and analyzing supplier quotes

  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve

  • Demonstrated experience achieving and exceeding cost-reduction objectives

  • Excellent Excel and other MS Office skills required

  • Experience with ERP or MRP purchasing systems preferred.

  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, with various teams including engineers and supply chain personnel.

  • Excellent negotiation, written and verbal skills.

  • Organizational skills to manage and track transactional details.

  • Team player and with strong interpersonal and project management skills.

VIEW JOBS 12/14/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-14T00:00 The Role We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Global Supply Manager to support our development teams and contract manufacturing partners in developing the recycling strategy for Tesla as well as the sourcing of Direct Materials. The Recycling Global Supply Manager will develop full life cycle of battery and automotive products to provide the greatest financial and environmental impact to Tesla. In addition, this role will have direct exposure to multiple groups within Tesla (legal, engineering, operations, government affairs, and more) This role will report to our Supply Chain Group Manager and in parallel be an active sourcing resource supporting our various Engineering groups within Tesla. She/he will be a member of our Supply Chain Organization supporting the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Tesla with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance. The Global Supply Manager builds and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. Tesla is a fast moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success. The successful candidate will be a self-starter; motivated with expert overall Sourcing Expertise. Responsibilities: * Develop and implement strategies for battery recycling globally * Develop and implement strategies for automotive recycling globally * Improve Gross Margins through recycling programs * Drive global innovation through implementing recycling programs * Drive price negotiations processes to ensure that Tesla's commodity pricing are best in class. * Address all areas of category management including category business plans, global market and pricing analysis and procurement support. * Monitor current category market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges & opportunities. * Develop key performance measures for chosen suppliers and negotiate on multiple variables to award longer-term strategic contracts that result in significant cost reduction and improved service levels. * Develop sourcing and negotiation strategies that deliver against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers. * Evaluate and provide guidance on final selection of suppliers; Perform value analysis for final selection of suppliers. * Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering or Chemistry and/or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability. * Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment. * Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
