The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Global Supply Manager to support our development teams and contract manufacturing partners in the sourcing of Direct Supply Chain components and parts. These could include specific parts related to one of our three automobiles (Model S, Model X and/or Model 3), Tesla Energy, Batteries and/or any other components intrinsic to the successful running of the organization. This role will report to our Supply Chain Group Manager and in parallel be an active sourcing resource supporting our various Engineering groups within Tesla.

She/he will be a member of our Supply Chain Organization supporting the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Tesla with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance.

The Global Supply Manager builds and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Owner of RFI's, RFP's and RFQ's - ensuring all commercial terms are agreed and documented.

  • Ensures NDA, SOW's and Master Purchase Agreement are positioned appropriately before business is initiated.

  • Drive price negotiations processes to ensure that Tesla's commodity pricing are best in class.

  • Drive continual cost reduction and avoidance initiatives through ad hoc price negotiations.

  • Drive supply base consolidation where possible.

  • Address all areas of category management including category business plans, global market and pricing analysis and procurement support.

  • Monitor current category market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges & opportunities.

  • Analyze current spend and evaluate current suppliers. Consolidate spend across supply base to create leverage, analyze purchasing trends and develop sourcing alternatives. Identify new high potential suppliers on global basis.

  • Manage respective supplier relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution.

  • Develop key performance measures for chosen suppliers and negotiate on multiple variables to award longer-term strategic contracts that result in significant cost reduction and improved service levels.

  • Monitor current category market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges and opportunities.

  • Develop spend strategies, identify potential suppliers, analyze supplier capabilities, select suppliers and determine prices, terms, and conditions of agreements.

  • Lead the vendor selection process with engineering teams.

  • Work collaboratively with other Sourcing Specialists, Sourcing Managers, Category Managers, and Buyers.

  • Identify supplier consolidation opportunities that will generate savings from executing strategic sourcing projects.

  • Evaluate supplier business proposals and present recommendations that will result in cost savings, avoidance or containment.

  • Develop sourcing and negotiation strategies that deliver against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers.

  • Create competitive environments with suppliers to support a negotiation strategy.

  • Evaluate and provide guidance on final selection of suppliers; Perform value analysis for final selection of suppliers.

  • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering or Chemistry and/or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.

In this role, the successful candidate will focus on traditional strategic sourcing models including commodity analysis, short-term/long-term commodity planning, consolidation, supplier scorecards and vendor management. A strong understanding of one or more strategic sourcing models is desired but not required. Lyft's sourcing process includes multiple phases from building a category strategy, identifying specific sourcing opportunities, contract negotiations, purchase order issuance, and implementation. The process involves steps such as preparing global market research, price/cost analysis, "should cost" models, Total Cost of Ownership, industry trends, commodity best practices and industry benchmarking to drive sourcing decisions. In addition to the specific sourcing, procurement, and vendor management responsibilities, this position is expected to contribute to the maturity of the overall function. This includes creating and refining processes, tools and templates that can be applied to across all vendors and categories worldwide. Responsibilities: * Develop supply chain and commodity strategies ensuring supplier(s) are capable of meeting Lyft's current and future technical and business requirements * Lead the identification, sourcing, and management of key component and manufacturing partners * Establish supplier selection criteria, evaluate alternative suppliers, manage the RFQ process, and drive final supplier selection in partnership with Hardware Engineering * Lead Total Cost Reduction program to ensure the lowest possible total cost, including product cost, transportation cost, inventory cost, and cost of quality * Determine appropriate business splits between suppliers where appropriate * Maintain expertise/knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures, technical improvements and competitive landscape * Negotiate key strategic agreements with suppliers to establish best-in-class pricing, flexibility, quality, delivery, payment, warranty, and service terms * Drive Early Supplier Involvement initiatives to ensure our commodity suppliers are proactively providing input into new product designs and future product roadmaps * Provide right recommendations to management, and finalize/release contract/PO * Travel periodically to supplier's manufacturing sites * Other duties as needed Experience: * 5+ years of industry experience working in Strategic Sourcing and Procurement * Has been a business owner for assigned categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact category and our business * Built and maintained (partnering) effective working relationship with assigned business area * Independent self-starter with high degree of confidence and business acumen * Solid team player; can work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment * Strong consultative, analytical, and problem solving skills * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills * Self motivated, reliable, passionate, and can keep to deadlines * Experience and understanding with legal frameworks and contract negotiation (development, supply, licensing, and service agreements) * Experience managing Autonmous Drive commodoties (e.g. cameras, LiDARs) is a plus * Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, supply chain management, finance, business administration or related discipline.
