The Global R&D Director

• PMMA Resins is fundamental to support the Global PMMA resins business development portfolio for the Engineering Materials Division Strategy.

This individual is accountable for the PMMA scientific technology programs,TS&D, to enable the growth and maintenance of specialty PMMA resins business. Directly leads a group of scientists, and Engineers. Accountable of the current & future business growth technical portfolio to ensure maximum value-add for the company, interfacing with customers, manufacturing, R&D and Business stakeholders.

Develops materials to meet the changing customer & market needs, in collaboration with the global T&I group, manufacturing, sales &/or marketing. Ensures technical know-how on the market / application / fabrication of the product portfolio to maximise the value proposition at customers for new or existing materials and understands technical landscape.

This position will be onsite in the King of Prussia, PA lab, Monday-Friday with 20% travel.

Responsibilities

Leader of Technology team; Scientists, TS&D

• Accountable of building strong teams and expertise of PMMA resins and as well support New Business Development and strategy.

• Contributes to management of the LTSA with Arkema while in KOP and collaborates with CoE NA Director to transfer operations to new center.

• Build and lead strong teams of Scientists & Engineers with expertise in PMMA resins

• Global coordination of TSD projects & customers, partnership and co-developments

• Member of Global Technology & Innovation, PMMA Resins Leadership Team, and Plastics Intellectual Capital Management Team (ICMT)

• Support the transition of operations from current site at King of Prussia within region

Management of strategic projects and overall PMMA resins portfolio

• New project identification, initiation and execution and linking projects to overall business strategic direction and platforms

• GBMT member

• PMMA is a multiple markets and technologies activity, which must grow with revamped Portfolio to ensure market leadership & technical knowledge.

• Demands of the Business units can often conflict with each other for resources, both for the engineers & laboratory. Maintaining the fine balance to keep delivering to business results

• with a finite number of resources is a constant challenge.

• Business Impact: development and maintenance of products in Automotive & Transportation, Lighting, Building & Construction, Medical, Cosmetics, Consumer, Adhesives, and consumer electronics. 5kT of new development products sales per year, impact of 10+% of global sales in new development product per year - non-risk adjusted.

• Contribute to the New Business Development and strategy

• Develop new applications in collaboration with R&D

IP focal point for PMMA resins

• Main contributor to the IP strategic portfolio for PMMA

Qualifications

• Phd, or Masters degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Sciences or other relevant degree

• 15+ Years of expertise in in Plastics/Polymers, Resins or similarly adjacent material science

• 5+ Years of R&D Director level experience, leading teams in a cross-collaborative environment, leading strategy and budget responsibility

• Experience with strategically transforming a development portfolio from an innovation standpoint for specialty business while partnering with key stakeholders of business development, marketing, sales, etc.

• Fabrication Processing knowledge

• Application Development knowledge

• Material Knowledge via Polymer Science

• Polymer synthesis knowledge

• Knowledge of influence of Additives / Fillers

• Sustainable technologies: recycling and other

• Polymer Characterization
