The Architect role is a part of Diagnostics Capital Investment and Real Estate, an interdisciplinary team of Engineers, Facility Managers, Designers, Real Estate Professionals, Finance and Sustainability experts etc. that governs and executes the delivery of our capital projects across the world. The purpose is to drive architecture and project development for the region.
Job Summary:This role will be instrumental in managing the early stage phase of capital projects by bridging between the business case and the delivery and by bringing innovation and new thinking into the process of shaping design solutions, ensuring alignment with the long-term Roche group and divisional goals. The role is a part of a global network of experts responsible for the governance of Roche Diagnostics projects portfolio.
This role will also have responsibility in representing the architecture discipline within Roche Diagnostics Engineering Americas organization and to the external world. The role will provide direction, review and manage the architectural design of the various projects to ensure alignment with Roche corporate identity and values. This role will be part of a regional team of engineers and project managers delivering large capital investment programs. Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions. Ensure all Roche Diagnostics projects reflect our global values, standards, guidelines and directives

Specific to the Global Project Developer role:
Question the problem statement, project assumptions and brief/requirements before exploring solutions
Promote user requirements and expectations in the key goals and drivers for a project
Exhaustively and objectively explore alternatives and innovative ways to satisfy project requirements towards new types of flexible and sustainable design solutions, in line with the long-term strategic goals.
Push back against wishes or local requirements in contradiction with Roche best interest
Work with leadership teams, steering committees, users and a wide range of other stakeholders to develop a common vision
Effectively collaborate across multiple organizations and with stakeholders of various backgrounds and skill sets. Facilitating objective, fact-based discussions around design and engineering topics towards decisions.
'Setting up' a project for successful execution from a design and planning perspective
Specific to the Regional Architect America's role:
Manage architectural design scope of Roche Diagnostics Americas building projects from design phase to realization, respecting the creative professional work owned by others while ensuring the best outcome for Roche.
Capabilities assessment of potential architectural / design consultants or contractors as part of the Architect Selection process, involving and seeking endorsement from the Diagnostics Corporate Architect.
Support and collaborate project managers with regard to the architect's role and scope, design timeline and resources.
As design lead within the execution project team, establish and guide the design process with an integrative design approach, managing A/E technical engineers and seeking alignment with local organization and global / local SME (subject matter experts).
Reviews project phase design / construction deliverables for quality control, design guidelines and cost target alignment.
Communicate design updates to project management and user representatives, supporting, reviewing and challenging the definition of user requirements.
Provide advice and direction on adherence to Global Roche Guide and signage as part of corporate identity, as well as to Local Guidance according to the site Master Plan.
Collaborate with Roche Diagnostic Global scope areas and regional engineering & facilities organization.
Lead the permitting process with the local authorities with regard to approval of the design
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Engineering
12 years of practical experience in leading architectural functions for the design and realization of complex projects, including managing design from early phase to construction phase.
At least 5 years of previous responsibility for leading or managing people formally or informally
5 years previous project management experience
Strong computer skills including strong working knowledge of CAD and project software
Excellent written, verbal and graphical digital communication skills
Demonstrated ability in prioritizing multiple projects with varying scopes of responsibility
Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability
Experience within international complex project and / or organization
Demonstrated skills in working with senior leadership on strategy and decision-making.
Understands industry standards and is comfortable with complex engagement between AEC disciplines and project management.
Ability to Influence and motivate others to achieve objectives.
Deep understanding of architectural theory, history and concepts and in particular from the Bauhaus and international style to today's contemporary architecture
Abstract thinking, alert grasp of essentials, sense for aesthetics and a respect of cultural variety
Bachelor's Degree in architecture from an internationally reputable university
15+ years of practical experience in leading architectural functions for the design and realization of complex projects.
International project experience outside the US
The role will require up to 30% travel within Region Americas
Fluent in German language
