What is the opportunity?

The Global Payroll Accountant is the primary point of contact for the administration of the Global Assignment and Cross-Border Commuter Policies in the U.S., and is responsible for accurate calculation and processing of earnings and taxes for W-2 and 1042S reporting. This role serves as a point of contact for all RBC employees subject to the Commuting Policy whether cross-border or interstate travelers. This position maintains a high standard of customer care, actively listening to employees to understand their need and point of view, and respecting privacy.

What will you do?

  • Global Payroll employee point of contact for all U.S. employees impacted by the Cross Border Commuting Policy and the Global Assignment Policy for short-term or long-term assignment

  • Global Payroll Business Partner point of contact works with tax firms, RBC Cross-Border Advisor, and RBC Global Assignment Advisor as needed to review and take proper action to resolve any issues related to W2, 1042-S, and/or TEQ

  • Database maintains listings of employees subject to the Cross-Border Commuting and Global Assignments

  • Tax Reporting

  • Immigration and Relocation

  • Payroll Processing for Cross-Border Commuting and Global Assignments

  • General Ledger: Reconciles tax benefit liability account monthly and makes adjustments via payroll system and/or journal entry to clear balances based on reimbursement or write-offs.

  • Invoicing payroll costs for expatriate employees including verification, funding, and GL journal entries

What do you need to succeed?


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or a professional equivalent

  • 3-5 years payroll experience

  • 1-3 years global payroll experience with emphasis on relocation, and 1-3 years general ledger and reconciliation experience

  • Working knowledge of SAP

  • Solid knowledge of payroll taxes and GAAP accounting


  • 1-3 years payroll experience in multi-state environment

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail

The Global Payroll Tax Accountant 5 is responsible for providing complex employer tax analysis, payroll accounting, payroll GL oversight, journal entries, reconciliations and process enhancements in the area of Executive Compensation and equity program management, such as with Restricted Share Rights (RSR) within our Global Payroll Services Finance and Accounting team and Global Tax, Compliance, Controls and Innovation COE. Person in this role is tasked to minimize compliance risk and optimize organizational performance by lending subject matter employer tax expertise to executive compensation programs.
