Engineer I - Mechanical Essential Functions and Requirements

  • Provide support as required to ensure that a safe and healthful environment is provided for all employees and compliance to all government regulations and corporate policies are maintained.

  • Develop expertise with respect to the Facilities manufacturing equipment and processes in order to support manufacturing initiatives that meet customer and business requirements.

  • Provide technical expertise with regards to mechanical design of components, equipment, and processes through the utilization of engineering principles: commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Develop designs that comply with company policies for cGMP.

  • Participate in and/or provide coordination and leadership for projects. This includes continuous or process improvement initiatives, equipment modifications, and equipment installation projects.

  • Provide technical expertise in regards to equipment design and component design to ensure functionality and reliability.

  • Assist with the development of machine centerlines and good run settings.

  • Provide technical support for the commercialization of new products, processes or systems for any of the Facilities manufacturing processes as required.

  • Coordinate the fabrication, operation, installation, and/or repair of equipment and processes.

  • Participate in, and lead as appropriate, continuous improvement activities as required with respect to safety, quality, productivity and cost initiatives.

  • Provide support to purchasing by providing equipment specifications and/or requirements, resolve equipment or parts issues, and realize cost savings opportunities with equipment vendors or parts suppliers.

  • Must be flexible in work schedule to support engineering projects as needed. This requires a commitment to the hours necessary to complete projects on time.

  • Provide the technical skills necessary to bring design projects from concept to fully functional processes and/or equipment.

Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME); or equivalent demonstrable skills and aptitude with relevant experience.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Proficient skills and experience utilizing Auto Cad.

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate utilizing written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be well organized with the ability to support and participate in multiple projects and tasks concurrently.

  • Ability to develop training materials and effectively train adult learners.

  • Capacity to enhance education and technical skills.

  • Ability to obtain a passport and to travel domestically and internationally.

Grade 10

The Backbone TFO (Integration) team and its Engineers. TFO stands for Technical Fulfillment Organization and we are the team within the Backbone Operations Department that Cox Communications trusts to deploy cutting-edge technologies, platforms, and services via First Office Applications (FOA), automation, and new designs to serve our customers, both internal and external alike. Do not be mistaken, the Backbone TFO (Integration) team works very hard and has a huge responsibility of ensuring that our network operates at its highest potential, but the team also has a good time doing so. Now for the exciting part! We are seeking a full-time Tech Ops Engineer II who has an extensive background in IP routing, switching, and automation technologies, someone with great problem-solving skills and the ability to work well with our customers and boundary partners. As a Tech Ops Engineer II at Cox Communications, your role on the Backbone TFO (Integration) team would be to provide operational design consultation in the engineering process, production trials, infrastructure life cycle deployments as well as operational escalation support for the National Backbone. You would contribute to the reliability, performance, scalability, quality, and availability of the Backbone Network with a primary focus on design projects, new deployments, and service integrations. Hows that for flexibility? * Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions: * * Develop and author detailed and efficient Methods and Procedures (M&P), Engineering Work Packages (EWP), Statements of Work (SOW), and Installation Request Forms (IRF) with a focus on minimal to no impact to production services. * Hardware and Software testing and deployment in a multi-team environment using latest automation techniques. * Test compatibility of new automation efforts and assist Development teams with integrations of new models. * Lab test design and functionality with Engineering and in the Integration staging environment. * Lead and provide escalation for production trials and service deployments on the National Backbone. * Deploy latest core provider hardware in complex production environment. * Provide knowledge transfer of design and function into Implementation and TSO teams. * Identify operational and design issues through data analysis and testing, recommend solutions to make the network more efficient. * Expert design and support knowledge of core backbone protocols listed in qualifications below. * Ability to write detailed and efficient methods and procedures without impact to production services. * Work with vendors to isolate issues related to a given platform. * Work with other groups on the implementation of network related projects and other standardization efforts. * Provide information and status to Backbone Integration Leadership and key stakeholders. Qualifications: *Minimum: * * 2 years of experience in related field (i.e. Engineering, Technical Operations) or academic equivalent training or projects. * Familiar with networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS, QoS, Multicast, MPLS (LDP, RSVP, CSPF, TE, P2MP, CBF, Auto-bandwidth, etc) as well as IP Switching and Routing Architectures * Familiar with High Availability protocols such as BFD, Graceful Restart, Non-Stop Forwarding, VRRP, and MPLS FRR. * Knowledge and operational experience of IP data L2/L3 switching architectures and technology * Knowledge and operational experience in performance, fault, and configuration management * Must have working knowledge and operational experience on all or most of these platforms * Juniper Platforms PTX, MX series, EX series * Cisco, Juniper switch platforms * Cisco Platforms NCS, ASR, Nexus * Arista Platforms * Experience with production changes in a backbone core routing environment. Experience with testing traffic flows and protocols in a lab environment * Experience with one or more of the following languages for automating network changes: Ansible, Python, Linux/Unix, Scripting, or other programming languages. * Technical experience with application development, development languages, toolsets, and methodologies. * Preferred:* * Experience with network modeling and simulation software (OPNET SP Guru, Cariden MATE, etc.). * Experience with some of the following types of tools is preferred: Performance monitoring, Protocol Analyzer, Modeling, Traffic simulation, SNMP trapping/polling, Streaming Telemetry, OpenTSDB. * BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems) and 2 or more years of experience in related field (i.e., networking).
