The IT Global Head for Cell Therapy Operations is a Sr. leader who is instrumental in the Information Technology & Digital vision, strategy, and global leadership for Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) Cell Therapy Operations, including Manufacturing and Manufacturing Science & Technology.

This leader provides the vision and day-to-day management necessary to lead the IT organization supporting the commercial manufacturing sites in the BMS Cell Therapy Manufacturing network across the globe.

This position is the senior business partner to the Cell Therapy Operations business unit and is accountable for their IT/OT/Digital strategic planning, delivery, and support of these digital capabilities. This role will partner with Cell Therapy Operations senior management to identify digital capabilities that have the highest business impact and be accountable for its deployment and business realization outcomes.

This role will report to the Vice President, IT, Global Product Development and Supply and will also be part of the Cell Therapy Operations leadership team.


  • Lead the Cell Therapy Operations IT organization throughout all US and Global sites and ensure highly reliable systems and support for 24/7 manufacturing operations.

  • Build the rapidly growing Manufacturing Site IT teams, from a size and capabilities aspect, to support the rapid capacity growth within the global manufacturing network.

  • Create and lead the strategic planning of digital capabilities for the Cell Therapy organization. The strategic planning will have a primary focus on capabilities in support of all aspects of CAR-T operations including clinical and commercial supply, chain of identity/custody, and interfacing with patient experience and commercial teams. Accountable for the entire budget of Cell Therapy Operations IT.

  • Define and maintain long-term (24-36 month) roadmaps identifying digital capabilities that have the greatest impact on business capabilities worldwide.

  • Develop strategic and collaborative partnerships with senior leaders in the Cell Therapy Operations. Ability to become the trusted partner and advisor to all stakeholders in Cell Therapy by demonstrating technical knowledge in multiple areas that will translate into the rapidly evolving CAR-T business unit.

  • Partner and lead in a matrix organization of IT resources collaborating with other IT functions. Responsible for ensuring that all IT functions are successful in their delivery of services to Cell Therapy. Key matrix IT partner functions include internal and strategic external partners.


  • Minimum of 10 years of leading cross-functional teams and experience leading teams located in multiple sites required. Experience leading teams across different countries, time zones, and cultures strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a highly regulated industry (Biotech, Pharma, Life-science strongly preferred). Strong knowledge and/or experience of manufacturing processes and facilities, as well as enterprise-level IT systems, is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience at a Pharma related manufacturing site is preferred, either direct site experience or experience managing an IT/OT team at multiple sites.

  • Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), process automation, and Quality systems are preferred.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience of automation systems regulatory requirements in the areas of computer systems validation, Part 11, and Continuous Process Verification is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the strategic planning and implementation of digital capabilities for a complex clinical operations and manufacturing network and operating in matrix organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, influence, and partner with senior business leaders.

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, or computer science-related field is required. An advanced degree (MS or PhD. in engineering or science) is preferred.

The Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI), which is a cross-sector initiative, is charged by the Executive Committee of J&J with meaningfully altering the course of lung cancer and improving survival by preventing, intercepting, and curing lung cancer. Similarly, the World Without Disease Accelerator (WWDA) is a cross sector R&D organization working on disease interception in other areas such as Type 1 diabetes, atopic dermatitis, and celiac disease. The Johnson & Johnson LCI and WWDA is recruiting for a Sr. Director of Clinical Operations. The incumbent will provide LCI/WWDA Clinical Operations Strategy Head is the single point of accountability at the LCI/WWDA for developing and implementing cross-functional, cross-sector, operational strategies for LCI/WWDA studies (inclusive of early development and late development). The incumbent would ultimately be accountable for the successful delivery of all clinical programs within the LCI/WWDA and will drive operational strategies to execute the LCI/WWDA portfolio on time and on budget. This position ensures common operational issues/challenges are identified across programs and across functions and addressed through operational risk mitigation / appropriate escalation to the LCI/WWDA, including proposals for alternative solutions. This position is accountable for ensuring operational execution for insourced, outsourced and hybrid programs utilizing the JJCO Agile Trial Model when applicable, for JJEI, J&J sector sponsored and IIS/Collaborative programs. The incumbent is responsible to assess organizational capabilities, and process improvements for short and long-term strategic initiatives. The LCI/WWDA Clinical Operations Head will be expected manage direct reports which may include Clinical Operation Alliance Managers to focus on identifying and developing a global early development clinical site network to deliver local delivery studies, as well as Data Management to ensure LCI/WWDA needs are met at both a portfolio and study level, and oversee dotted line functions for each study, such as Study Trial Managers. They are also expected to ensure optimal partnership and interactions with external vendors (preferred and niche). The LCI/WWDA Clinical Operations Strategy Head is responsible for managing the Clinical Operations Strategy and Execution Committee (COSEC), a body of cross-sector and critical stakeholders, including PMO, SEO, Business Operations, Clinical, & Medical Safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (CORE Responsibilities) * Accountable for cross operational deliverables within LCI portfolio for insourced, outsourced, and hybrid programs. Coordinates across functions and to ensure LCI strategies and operational implications are clearly understood. * Determines (new) capabilities required (including new vendors to be identified) and ensures cross-functional operational plans are in place to deliver against the LCI strategies. * Provide critical cross functional operational input and thorough evaluation of proposed trials / programs. * Review new programs / trials / activities and develops sourcing strategy with partners. * Ensures common operational issues/challenges are identified and addressed through operational risk mitigation. * Ensures accurate budget estimates and predictable delivery of clinical operations across the portfolio within the agreed upon budget. * Establish strong relations with the Q&C organization to ensure first time right, build pro-active risk management plans and drive risk mitigations where appropriate. * Owns and leads the COSEC objectives and process. * Leads or supports LCI wide projects.
