Responsibilities include the following:

  • Comprehensive education abroad advising of students. This includes advising and coordinating on education abroad opportunities, program selection, application and enrollment processes.

  • Working with faculty, administration and staff to develop, manage, and promote a portfolio of Education Abroad programs with an emphasis on curriculum integration. This includes coordinating and liaising between education abroad participants, partners, and relevant academic and administrative offices.

  • Organizing and managing education abroad events and programming, such as Global Education Fairs, pre-departure orientations, info sessions, classroom presentations and other study-abroad related workshops.

This position reports to the Director for Education Abroad.

The intention is for this position to be located at Plymouth State University (PSU), combined with responsibilities at the Education Abroad/Away office of the University of New Hampshire. Regular business travel between PSU and UNH will be required.

  • Master's degree and two years' experience in university study abroad advising and programming, or Bachelor's degree and four years' experience in study abroad.

  • Study abroad or international internship/volunteer/service-learning/work experience

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Proficient in computer skills (i.e., excel, databases, and domain-specific software).

  • Effective written and verbal cross-cultural communication skills

  • Public relations and marketing skills

  • Capacity to work in team setting and independently, prioritize, and manage advising, programming, and administrative functions

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a team; with faculty, staff, students and the general public

  • Supervisory skills

Advising

Comprehensive advising of students about education abroad opportunities and program selection including:

  • Work with students to identify education abroad programs that fulfill their academic requirements, as well as their personal, financial and career goals.

  • Communicate to stakeholders the scope of education abroad program opportunities, e.g., study abroad, exchange, international internships, and research.

  • Manage the institutional expectations and specific needs of program participants concerning academic requirements, costs, housing, health and safety, and any individual special needs or accommodations.

  • Communicate program-related policies and procedures to and respond to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and parents.

  • Serve as the liaison among the Education Abroad office, student participants, Education Abroad programs, departments, and relevant administrative offices for issues of eligibility, course approvals, credit transfer, financial aid, billing and registration.

  • Facilitate the course approval process for students who are enrolling in transfer credit classes abroad.

  • Assist with students' registration with the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Billing, Business Services, Enrollment Management, Housing, Student Activities and related matters, e.g., withdrawals and deferrals.

  • Coordinate the review and approval of applications with Faculty Directors for faculty-led programs.

  • Assist students and faculty abroad (in-country) as needed, e.g., resolving student issues related to cultural adjustment, housing, course add/drop and others that may arise, including student emergencies. Collaborate with stakeholders in response to health and safety issues.

  • Process transcripts and report study abroad program grades to Registrar.

  • Conduct site visits abroad as needed to support the accurate advising on education abroad programs' academic offering and services, housing, student support services, and health and safety.

Duty/Responsibility

Curriculum Integration of Education Abroad in assigned College(s)/unit(s)

  • Work with College administration, faculty and staff to develop and manage a portfolio of curriculum-integrated Education Abroad programs that fulfill students' major, minor, discovery and elective requirements.

  • Collaborate on strategic study abroad initiatives.

  • Assist faculty with program design, agreements with host institutions, and knowledge on institutional policies and processes in the development of new faculty-led programs.

  • Coordinate the administration of assigned programs in UNH-Via, i.e., creating and updating program pages, applications and forms.

  • Advise students on visa requirements and application processes. When essential, collect and deliver visas applications as a group directly to the consulate.

  • Coordinate planning details with faculty directors and overseas partners as required to ensure deadlines are met for successful housing arrangements, course enrollments, visa issuances, etc.

  • Routinely review (pre-departure) with Faculty Director and, if appropriate, on-site Faculty Leader study abroad policies, final program itinerary, on-site orientation, student and site expectations, and emergency contacts.

  • Assess, document and disseminate program evaluations.

  • Serve on study abroad committees and attend meetings in assigned College(s)/ unit(s) as needed.

  • Serve as Ex-officio member of the University Committee on Study Abroad (UCSA) to support committee members in the development and execution of policies and procedures relative to study abroad.

Programming, Outreach & Promotion

  • Work to increase the participation of underrepresented and minority students in education abroad programming.

  • Contribute to the coordination of UNH Global programming: fairs, information sessions, topic-specific workshops, study abroad alumni engagement.

  • Assist with the development and execution of pre-departure meetings, including developing and updating pre-departure resources for students.

  • Develop recruitment, marketing, and promotion plans for assigned College/unit, in line with overall education abroad strategies (social media, flyers).

  • Represent Education Abroad at campus-wide events.

  • Present on Education Abroad in classrooms.

  • Conduct email and messaging campaigns utilizing online advising and enrollment platforms.

  • Participate in information sessions in consultation and collaboration with Chairs, faculty, and program directors.

  • Supervise work-study students as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned
