Based at MMC's headquarters in New York, the Global Director of Media Relations is responsible for programs that drive Marsh & McLennan's corporate reputation supporting Investor Relations and financial communications, positioning the company's top executives, and executing a social media strategy.

The Director will also help to support and coordinate the media strategies of the enterprise's Operating Companies and MMC's Global Risk Center. The Director will help to lead various internal public relations and content councils, comprised of public relations professionals across the four Operating Companies, which facilitate collaboration across the enterprise. Global Director of Media Relations candidates will have a demonstrated media relations management experience and a proven record of successfully handling media issues within global matrixed organizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a corporate communications strategy, includin

g managing top tier media relationships and positioning leading company executives.

  • Devise strategies to manage and fully leverage the enterprise's intellectual capital, including though the Global Risk Center and on the enterprise website, mmc.com.

  • Participate in communications strategies for quarterly earnings and financial filings. Partner with key internal stakeholders to prepare crisis communications plans and protect the enterprise's reputation.

  • Partner with the communications and marketing teams from the enterprise's operating companies. Participate in the process to define operating company communications priorities and work in partnership with colleagues in support of them. Facilitate collaboration across the enterprise from business to business.

  • Help oversee the process to prepare and distribute the enterprise's Daily Insight Report and weekly Press Matters Report. Contribute content and editorial judgement to both products.

  • Manage and

fully utilize external consultants and partnership to meeting the enterprise's media relations goals.

  • Develop and execute a social media strategy for the enterprise.

Reporting directly to the Head of Public Affairs, the successful candidate will play a central role in shaping our brand positioning and media strategy and helping to execute smart, effective communications campaigns. Qualifications: * This is a senior role which requires 5-8 years of experience in a communications, government, journalism, technology, or related enterprise, with demonstrated ability to carry out the above responsibilities. * The successful candidate will be a strong writer with excellent attention to detail who thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. * Experience advising senior executives on media relations is preferred. * The successful candidate will be both a strong leader and a team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate constructively. * Preferred but not required: strong relationships with national business and technology reporters, editors, and bloggers who cover changes in the way the world's businesses innovate, make decisions, and execute priorities. * A demonstrated passion for working on significant and complex issues at the intersection of business and technology. * A demonstrated interest in harnessing the changing media landscape to evolve communications strategies in new and innovative ways.
