Position Title Glee Club Accompanist & Coordinator Position Summary

The Glee Club Accompanist & Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Glee Club and will serve as the accompanist for the Spelman College Glee Club during annual on and off campus event performances, rehearsals. This position will also provide administrative support for the Glee Club operations as well as act as tour organizer for performance/events.

NOTE: The administrative work schedule is M-F 11am

  • 5pm. The accompaniment work hours will depend on the performance schedule of the Glee Club.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accompaniment Duties:

● Provides musical accompanist for all regularly scheduled Glee Club rehearsals.

● Serves as accompanist for annual performances such as: Convocations; Fall & Spring Campus Concerts (2-day event), Founder's Day Concert, Christmas Carol Concerts (3), Baccalaureate, Commencement. and Spring Tour.

● Serves as accompanist for the Glee Club for other requested performances and events as requested in and out of state, and out of the country, such as: Rome (7-day tour), AKA HBCU Week Concert

  • Arkansas, Women's Choral Festival

  • Sister's Chapel (On-Campus), PBS Special Recording (2-day event),

Administrative Duties:

● Serves as a point of contact for all Glee Club on-campus/off-campus performance requests

● Schedules tour dates, sources venue spaces, manages the venue reservation process, and handles contract negotiations and payments

● Coordinates all logistical travel arrangements for the Glee Club (ex. transportation, hotel accommodations) and processing of expense reports, student travel forms, etc.

● Oversees Glee Club student recruitment, auditions, and alumnae engagement.

● Serves as the primary contact for the coordination of on-campus Glee Club performances, which includes creating promotional flyers, program booklets for performances, arranging event set-up, audio visual production needs, etc.;

● Provides support to the Associate Professor/Director with managing the student leadership/executive board.

● Maintains Glee Club wardrobe and accessories; coordinates any necessary cleaning, mending or alterations; ensures wardrobe and all associated items are gathered and properly stored after each performance.

● Manages advertising efforts to include the design and distribution of invitations, promotional flyers and program booklets for performances/events.

● Maintains Glee Club choral library and data, ensures annual updates to the NASM (National Association of Schools of Music).

● Assists students with general support and problem resolution of enrollment issues for courses MUS070 and MUS071.

● Completes and submits purchase requisitions, check requests, other financial documents and maintains all document records; Follows-up on financial documents and provides update to requestor: Obtain necessary signatures, Check on delivery of items as necessary.

● Performs clerical duties such as copying, typing various forms of correspondence (i.e., letters, reports, proposals, forms, envelopes), and mailings.

● Oversees Glee Club social media presence

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor of Music in Piano degree required along with three years of related work experience/professional music experience.

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain collaborative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment. Advanced level accompanying skills, the ability to improvise, excellent sight-reading and the ability to play a wide range of music is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of successful teaching techniques is a plus. This position requires strong customer service focus, excellent writing, and time management skills. Professional demeanor with the ability to interface with internal and external customers with diplomacy and tact and possess attention to detail is essential.

Excellent oral communication skills are required when providing information and responding to questions from students, parents, employees, and the general public in one-on-one or group situations. Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Good proofreading skills are essential.

This work requires the ability to perform basic to intermediate level computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) which include such things as typing basic letters and memos. In addition to producing correspondence, duties may involve assignments that require creating brochures or spreadsheets. Must be capable of using Outlook, Adobe Suite/Canva, Google Calendar, Banner Financial Module, and Internet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle office supplies, operate musical instruments,operate computer and other office equipment. The employee is frequently required to: reach with hands and arms,and stand.

The employee is occasionally required to: climb and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
