Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Technician to support our client, a major utility company in the Birmingham area. As a GIS Technician, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing geographic data to support various projects within our organization. Your duties will include creating maps, updating databases, conducting spatial analysis, and collaborating with other team members to gather and verify geographical information. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, proficiency in GIS software, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:
Input, processing, and maintenance of the client's assets in an ESRI GIS database.
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's degree (Geography, GIS, or similar field), GIS Certificate, or at least 2 years of full time GIS work experience is required
Power Distribution knowledge is a plus
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software required; experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro software is a plus
Competency with standard computer software, to include Microsoft Office suite is required
Capable of working in a team environment is required
Experience with CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is a plus
Flexible to work 40 hours per week, M-F, in an office environment in Birmingham, Alabama. Shifts may be 8 or 10 hours per day, starting as early as 7am and ending as late as 5pm.
Flexible to work remotely (from home) as well. Remote work requires stable broadband Internet connection of 20mb/s or capable of supporting remote desktop connections over VPN and is responsibility of worker.
Note: Once the ~3 month training period is completed in Birmingham, Alabama (depends on individual), work may become mostly remote with
occasional work, meetings, training, etc., in the office. No per diem available for onsite training, meetings, and work...must live within commuting distance to office in Birmingham, AL.
