GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Position is in the GIS Division of the Planning & Development Services Department. This Division provides data collection, mapping, land use planning and GIS support for Departments under the St.

Lucie Board of County Commissioners. This position provides primary GIS support to the Building & Codes Division. This position reports to GIS Manager.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Manipulate and maintain spatial database records for use with a computer based geographic information system (GIS).

Operate GIS workstation and software, perform digital base map updates, prepare exhibits and thematic maps, provide support for special projects that relate to spatial, demographic or tabular data contained in the GIS database. Perform data collection and mapping design work.

Conduct these functions in the development and support of the County's GIS. Handle customer service requests for public domain data.

Understand and comply with the St.

Lucie County Board of County Commissioners employee handbook and other established policies and procedures.

Perform other job-related functions as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

Standard statistical principles, methods and research techniques.

Computer automated mapping, geographic data collection methods and automated data management systems.

Current Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Ability to:

Deal effectively with the public.

Present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form.

Work well under pressure with fixed deadlines.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the Department and other agencies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools.   Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Can work under deadlines and other stressful conditions.

WORK HAZARDS: Occasional field visits to undeveloped, agricultural areas and areas under development, with attendant hazards.

As a requirement of County employment, County employees are subject to being required to remain at work during an event, respond to a recall immediately following an event and/or immediately reporting to work when an all clear is declared by the County Administrator.  During these types of events, County employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or possession of an equivalent degree. An associate's (2-year) degree from an accredited college or business school or equivalent course work at a technical or vocational school in geographic information systems, geography, planning, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years of experience in relational database system utilization and Microsoft Office products is required. Experience with ESRI ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro is desired.

NOTE: An equivalent combination of experience/training and/or experience may be substituted to meet the above noted minimum qualifications.Pay Grade  G11

Driving Position - Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING:

This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver's license verification and level 1 background screening.
