Are you an IT professional with skills and knowledge in GIS systems?

Our GIS System Admin is the primary and immediate point of contact for 100+ IT Professionals and hundreds of GIS users located across six Regional Offices and Department headquarters in Olympia and is a part of the GIS Services Unit.

Work with many other state agencies to coordinate inter-agency initiatives.  Provide specialized technical and analytical services, system design and integration, testing, problem resolution, and strategic direction for agency data, database, and GIS systems.

With your experience, you will perform system design and development support to agency programs, providing hosted GIS services, maps, applications, collaborations, and reporting.

You are excited to serve as a lead professional specialist for GIS system administration.

We are seeking a candidate to administer the Agency's enterprise Esri GIS server resources including ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Hub, and other associated Esri server, web, and desktop software.

Here are some things you will be doing in this role,

Administer enterprise GIS server infrastructure (ArcGIS Server, Enterprise, AGOL), desktop GIS software and remote desktop systems, and oversee geospatial data, technology, support services, and special projects:

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise, AGOL, and associated Esri server software.  This includes ArcGIS Monitor used for monitoring critical map services, server uptime and server resources for the agency.

  • Design, operate, and continually improve the services that the ITS GIS Unit offers to agency customers.

  • Evaluate and recommend agency GIS infrastructure changes and acquisitions to improve staff and public access to GIS resources.

Provide Backup for Agency GIS Data and Database Administration:

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and administration of ArcSDE for SQL Server as needed.

  • Plan for increased server capacity. database growth and storage space requirements based on current and historical use patterns.

  • In conjunction with agency security analysts, design, implement, and enforce protocols intended to secure and ensure the integrity of agency information resources.

Agency GIS support and maintenance:

  • Resolve GIS software install issues, GIS how-to issues, and GIS software licensing issues.

  • Provide design and development support for new web-based GIS mapping, and resource managing, applications.

  • Maintain the ArcGIS Desktop licensing information for users in the following DFW Business Units

  • CAMP, Director's Office, Enforcement, and any other units not assigned.

Researching and Evaluate GIS tools in coordination with WDFW Business Units:

  • Work with business units to understand current needs and evaluate and research GIS tools that could provide solutions to business needs.

  • Catalog applications in use. What's been evaluated and what business needs are, and aren't, being met with the current set of tools.

Maintain a current knowledge of ArcGIS technology:

  • Maintain a high degree of technical proficiency and currency in server, web, enterprise geodatabase, and desktop software.

  • Monitor Esri current and future software development trends. Make recommendations for infrastructure changes and acquisitions to keep up with evolving software product lines.

  • Leverage experience and training to maximize agency enterprise GIS investment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:

  • Duties are performed in an office setting.

  • This position requires extensive computer use.

  • Schedule:

  • Typically, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

  • A varied schedule may be required including working Saturday or Sunday and overtime during peak periods, system implementations, maintenance, and outages.

  • Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel may be required throughout the State to attend training, meetings, and conferences.

  • Tools and Equipment:

  • Computer hardware and software; multi-line telephones.

  • Customer Interactions:

  • Fish, Habitat, and Wildlife Program coordinators and staff, and other agency GIS staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional (paid) experience in information technology with emphasis on the administration of Esri's suite of GIS tools including ArcGlS Desktop and Pro, ArcGlS Server, AGOL, and ArcSDE in a Windows based environment.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of, and experience in, the design, development, and implementation of ESRI GIS web-based applications. Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and XML and their use in ArcGIS Server applications. Working knowledge of the Python scripting language and shell scripting languages common to the windows environment.

  • Knowledge of and experience with relational database design in a SQL Server environment.

  • Knowledge of Vector Tile, Tile and Mobile Map Packaging.

  • Ability to utilize and interpret geographic information sources such as maps and spatial statistics.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment promoting communication, consensus, decision making, and team cooperation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to technicians, managers, and professional staff about complex technical topics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography or related field.

  • Technical understanding of hardware, software, and computer programming.

  • Undergo a background check, which will include fingerprinting.
