Position Overview
Nexus Water Group is seeking a GIS Specialist to support our Engineering GIS team. This role will maintain the utility's spatial data (pipes, valves, hydrants, easements, etc.) using a Geographical Information System (GIS) to support the company's departments. In addition, this role will perform data entry through digitization, scanning, field data collection using GPS, perform quality control/assurance of GIS data, design and produce high-quality cartographic presentations exhibits, graphs, and charts as needed by other departments/utilities.

Job Responsibilities

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:
Perform quality control / assurance of GIS data.
Understand UML and create ArcSDE geodatabases with domains and subtypes.
Perform data entry through digitization, scanning and field data collection using GPS.
Perform network traces and quality checks to verify connectivity and integrity utility's geometric networks.
Perform quality checks using ArcGIS data reviewer. Receive as-built information from other departments.
Co-ordinate with other departments for data gathering and updating by using coordinate geometry or GPS.
Review graphics and attribute data for accuracy and compliance with the GIS model before reconciling with database.
Design and produce high-quality cartographic presentations exhibits, graphs and charts as needed by other departments / utilities.
Position Qualifications
Moderate knowledge with GIS, database and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) / Bentley products (Micro station, Bentley Map, Bentley Water) and FME software is desired.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical skills, ability to use thinking and reasoning to effectively identify and solve GIS problems.
Experience with field deployment of GIS is highly desirable.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Hold a valid California driver's license.
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Cartography / Remote sensing or related field preferred.
Certificate of Completion of a formal course of instruction in the use of ARCGIS equipment and software from certified college or university, similar to GISP is desirable.
Technical certification for ArcGIS Server Site Configuration and Administration or equivalent experience is desirable.

Works in a climate-controlled office environment and at field locations and plants.
May be subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; exposure to physical hazards from equipment with moving parts, high voltage electrical equipment, hazardous chemicals, bacteria in wastewater.
