Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical mapping functions utilizing GIS technology, and manages all GIS and 9-1-1 addressing activities for Hays County.
Responsibilities
Provides GIS support to other County departments andofficials.
Performs daily GIS, computer, and network system administration for Development Services.
Develops and manages GISprojects.
Communicates with other County Departments and/or Elected Officials.
Coordinates with regional partners regarding GIS data andprojects.
ManagesspecialGISprojectsand database conversionprojects.
Customizes mapping and GIS applications using various computer languages including Python, and
Visual Basic.
Manages Capitol Area Emergency Communications District and other related grants.
Participates on regional GIS and 9-1-1 planningcommittees.
Interacts with local, state, federal, and private agencies requiring Hays County spatialdata.
Trains department staff on the use of GPS and GIS software andhardware.
Produces maps and other GIS products and services for other departments and thepublic.
Prepares and manages the annual county GIS budget and reviews andapproves expenditures.
Represents the County on the CAPCOG GIS Planning Council and other related organizations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in the area of GIS, geography, planning, or relatedfield
Five years' experience in GIS, database management, cartography or related field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Each additional year of required experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
