Our North Mountain Team is seeking a GIS Analyst Intern - Summer 2024 to work out of our South Jordan, UT office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2024 or later.

This 12-week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 20th, 2024. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact

  • Will perform both geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management and analysis, cartography, and develop/use automated GIS processes using a variety of software environments.

  • Will work on multiple projects simultaneously, with a commitment to delivering high-quality data products.

  • Will work in a data production-oriented environment as part of a GIS/Engineering team.

  • Revise existing GIS layers and create new layers following established standards and procedures.

  • Will create high-quality maps, variety of GIS based analysis, and data for reports to support various engineering projects.

  • Maintain best practices to support systems and data production.

  • Will engage with community contacts via telephone occasionally.

  • Will assist in the preparation of various analytical reports, agendas, sign in sheets and monthly progress reports suitable for meetings.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.

  • Demonstrated interest in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or related master's degree or PhD program.

  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS online.

  • Basic Familiarity with programming languages (Python / Visual Basic)

  • Experience of processing LiDAR a plus.

  • Experience with CAD platforms and data exchange between CAD/GIS environments a plus.

  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
