Class Summary
The IT Department is committed to empowering business stakeholders with technology and services that facilitate effective processes, collaboration, and communication. The Emerging Technologies and Digital Transformation Division, which consists of the Geospatial Solutions team, Public Safety team, and Web team is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of the core business systems supporting Gwinnett County Government. The Geospatial Solutions team provides GIS and Accela support for all major county departments, including Planning and Development, Fire and Emergency Services, Police, Water Resources, Community Services, and Support Services. As GIS Analyst II , you will be responsible for performing analytical duties in support of Geographic Information Systems. Incumbents are well-rounded with a wide range of skills and ability to multi-task. You will create, edit, maintain, analyze, and manage diverse geospatial vector and raster data, perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and conduct ad-hoc analysis.
Essential Duties
Extract and transform data from a variety of internal and external authoritative sources and use varying analysis methods to provide useful and timely information to decision makers and recommend appropriate reactionary strategies in response to business unit requests.
Create digital datasets and paper maps to clients to supplement analysis.
Compile sophisticated reports and write standard operating procedures and technical support documentation as required.
Develop workflows and GIS modeling techniques to help automate repetitive tasking for normal business operations.
Deep understanding of Esri environment's geoprocessing tools for data and low-level geodatabase performance maintenance.
Provide customer service to County personnel and the public; perform quality control for GIS data, participate in developing, implementing, and modifying GIS software applications; conduct research to identify technical solutions for application suitability.
This job requires a public safety background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Geography, GIS, or a related field, and
Two years of directly related GIS experience, or
an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Valid driver's license
GISP/ESRI Certification preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in editing GIS data using Esri ArcGIS software
Experience in reading deeds and plats, and transferring information from plans to digital formats for mapping
The grade for this position is C42(1)
