Title: Gifted Facilitator

Reports to: Building Principal and Tonganoxie Basehor Linwood Special Education Cooperative Leadership

Position Summary: The gifted facilitator teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal- social- and intellectual development of students by providing enrichment opportunities for students who have been identified as exceptional.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree or willingness to acquire licensure for Gifted Education

  • Currently hold or be eligible for a Kansas certificate in respective content area

  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective instruction

  • Desire and ability to work with students and staff

  • A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the school principal

  • The ability and willingness to communicate with parents

  • Ability to plan- organize- and see that activities are completed

  • Proficient in data collection and reporting

  • Excellent written and oral skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

  • Valid Teaching Certificate with applicable level area endorsements.

  • 5+ years of directly related experience in education.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in identification of gifted students.

  • Design and implement individualized education plans for gifted students in compliance with Kansas special education law.

  • Provides direct instruction to identified students in general education and special education settings.

  • Serve as a resource person for the classroom teachers- providing materials- methods- and ideas to ensure appropriate educational experiences for the identified students in the general education classroom.

  • Work in conjunction with general education classroom teachers to provide instruction in higher level thinking and problem solving skills for all students.

  • Serve as a member of the school team- communicating frequently and regularly with parents of the identified students.

  • Assists the teaching and learning team in district in-service directed at an awareness of gifted education and the development of teaching skills necessary to better meet the needs of the gifted students in the general education classroom.

  • Has knowledge and understanding of the cognitive- social and emotional characteristics- needs- and problems found in gifted students as a result of their development.

  • Develop and implement a flexible- individualized- enriching curriculum appropriate to meeting the individual gifted pupil`s needs and nurturing group interaction.

  • Create an environment in which the students can use their strengths- explore their personal and interpersonal development- risk new areas of thought and action and feel challenged.

  • Will nurture creativity in all its aspects of thinking- feeling- intuiting- and expressing talent through products.

  • Ability to supervise- direct- motivate- and correct employee's job performance.

  • Ability to model commitment and dedication to work.Ability to work independently and without supervision- and complete work in an efficient manner.

General Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly- productive environment for learning.

  • Communicates with parents and counselors on a student`s progress.

  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.

  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.

  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district- and in self-selected professional growth activities related to gifted education..

  • Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines.

  • Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community.

  • Works effectively with community organizations.

  • Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.

  • Supports the value of education.

  • Supports the mission and vision of USD #458.

  • Keeps abreast of new information- best practices- innovative ideas- and techniques.

  • Adheres to all district health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal- or other Administrative Staff.

Physical Requirements: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

  • Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.

  • Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: 10 months (187 Days); Academic school year as assigned.

Evaluation: Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
