Gift Shop Retail Operations Manager (63715)

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining the retail operations of Hamilton Health Care System Gift Shops, including purchasing of merchandise and maintaining adequate and evenly balanced supply of inventory. Responsible for the scheduling, training, and supervision of Gift Shop associates and volunteer staff seven days per week.

Works closely with Guest/Volunteer Services Department to coordinate gift shop volunteer orientation/training and also recruit a sufficient volunteer base to provide shop coverage during all business hours. Plans, schedules, and organizes promotions and special events. Frequent travel to gift markets and other wholesalers required. Ongoing scheduling of volunteers and purchasing products to accommodate floral needs of customers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in business related field or related work experience may be considered (1 year of related work experience per 1 year of college).

Experience: Retail and merchandise buying experience is essential.

Skills: Management skills necessary for coordinating efforts of department associates and Volunteer Staff.

Excellent communication skills within all levels of the organization. A demonstrable aptitude for negotiating with suppliers and vendors. Good sales ability and purchasing skills are necessary.

Must have familiarity with market research and forecasting techniques. Some accounting skills and computer skills are required for processing invoices and maintaining Gift Shop reports and records. Experience with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel and Publisher required. Excellent customer service skills are required.

Physical/Mental Effort: Moderate physical effort required in unpacking and putting up stock. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Environmental/Working Conditions: Pleasant working environment in completely new office, storage room, showroom, and flower preparation area.
