Department Statement

Colgate University, a top-ranked liberal arts college, is seeking a Gift Processing Specialist to support gift entry and management for the historic Campaign for the Third Century.

Founded in 1819, Colgate is a small, highly selective residential liberal arts college for students of talent who are preparing for lives of leadership and productive citizenship. Colgate University enjoys a strong tradition of philanthropy and engagement and is currently engaged in a historic comprehensive campaign with a goal of $1 billion. To date, the Campaign for the Third Century has raised over $580 million towards this goal.

The Office of Advancement Operations supports the University and the advancement division in processing gifts, maintaining data, developing reporting, and managing division-wide business processes. The department is responsible for implementation and management of advancement technology systems including the alumni database of record, Raiser's Edge. The department is also responsible for system integrity, training, and support.

At this pivotal moment in the University's history, Colgate is seeking a Gift Processing Specialist. This is an integral role within the three-person Gift Records team which is collectively responsible for the accurate and timely processing of 20,000 philanthropic gifts every year. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, and be able to apply critical thinking skills to produce timely and accurate gift records.

Accountabilities

The Gift Processing Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate processing of philanthropic gifts to Colgate University. Specific tasks include: entering and managing gift information into Raiser's Edge/NXT; reconciling various tender types including check, electronic deposit, and third-party gifts; managing all aspects of matching gift confirmation and gift entry; creating new pledges and matching gifts to pledges; daily reporting and receipting; and detailed record keeping. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in research and deployment of new gift processing technologies and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

.The ideal candidate must have experience with data entry and will possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. A demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials with sensitivity and discretion is required, as is the ability to meet deadlines, follow policies and procedures accurately and consistently, and superior customer service skills.

Previous experience with cash handling and reconciliation is required. The candidate must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis through strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the Raiser's Edge database is preferred. Prior accounting experience is also preferred.

Education

  • Associate's degree plus a minimum of 2 years of data entry, banking, or accounting experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are attained is required.
