Hourly Rate: $17.78

The Art Gallery Exhibition Coordinator works under the supervision of the Gallery Director to perform duties related to the planning, realization, and installation of visual arts exhibits and programming. Assists Gallery Director with the coordination of public events, seminars, and services for campus and/or community outreach provided through the Gallery. Required to maintain a flexible work schedule in order to coordinate and attend evening activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with the scheduling, coordination and marketing for exhibitions and exhibit-related programming.

  • Assist in the preparation and installation of exhibitions; ensure safe and proper display of artwork and lighting of exhibitions.

  • Assist with the storage and receiving of all art objects on loan from other institutions/artists.

  • Assist in maintaining gallery records using Excel, Filemaker Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud and other programs.

  • Assist with gallery marketing through social media, email campaign, and data entry on various website calendars and distribution of materials.

  • Assist in organizing and carrying out gallery receptions and events, including food handling & set up/tear down.

  • Answer phone, drop-ins, and emails for ticket sales and registration of fundraising events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fine & Applied Arts, Graphic Design, Museum Studies, or a related field.

  • Ability to climb ladders, move installation equipment and lift and move art object weighing 30 pounds.

  • Familiarity with contemporary art.

  • Excellent knowledge of proper etiquette and use of discretion.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous projects while working independently.

  • Functional ability in current computer applications, including FileMaker Pro, Word, and Excel with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and new computer programs as technology changes.

  • Actively participate in team meetings and by sharing knowledge, skills, and experience with co-workers.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with diverse population.

  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
